Not too long ago, this was a thriving mangrove ecosystem in Mumbai.

Today, in the name of progress and projects like the Coastal Road development, that ecosystem is rapidly disappearing. What once acted as a natural flood barrier, a carbon sink, and a living habitat is slowly being replaced by concrete, dust, and silence.

This is not a question of whether cities should develop. It is a question of whether development can continue while ignoring sustainability. Because when ecosystems disappear, the damage extends far beyond the trees themselves — affecting biodiversity, climate resilience, and the fragile balance between nature and urban life.
