seeing your posts about asriel and kris, i just wanted to throw in my two cents: i think kris loves asriel. that doesn't excuse any harm he might have caused them, but it adds to the complex feelings kris must have about him. he let them have the proper game controller while he used the knock-off one, he would take them to the diner even after their parents got divorced, he carried them to school when they were little. their throat tightens when they drink hot chocolate, likely because it reminds them of him. it's so hard to reconcile that someone who loves you would hurt you in such a terrible way. why couldn't he have just been the big brother they needed? why did he have to ruin it?
there are a million ways to interpret their dynamic and deltarune’s asriel himself mainly because we haven’t even met him yet, and kris adoring a brother who hurt them so badly is one of the most heartbreaking ones. going off that idea i propose you this: i’ve read about cases of sibling incest where they were both very young and the perpetrator grows up to be incredibly remorseful and spends years of their lives trying to make up past actions to their sibling. asriel being “always a crybaby,” in undertale while apologizing for all the horrible things he did as flowey combined with him desperately confessing to “various… ‘sins.’ despite the absence of sin, of confession, in our religion.” in deltarune leads me to believe if abuse happened it is very possible asriel may have reacted similarly here.
