In adulthood, he rose to foreman at an ironworks, hardened but never cruel, until a wealthy businessman offered him a chance at immortality. He accepted, not knowing that the offer was a curse. The transformation was brutal, and the gift merciless. In place of death came centuries of silence, shadow, and the ache of a life that would never end, no matter what war he threw himself into.
Sergeant John “Soap” MacTavish
Turned: 1917, Western Front, World War I
Born in 1887 just outside Edinburgh, Soap grew up the middle child of seven, one of four to survive into adulthood. His Catholic mother raised him between Mass and odd jobs while his father taught him hard work and grit at the fish yards. When the Great War came, he and his brother Michael were conscripted into the effort. Soap became a demolitions expert, setting mines beneath enemy trenches. In 1917, during an underground assault, his team was ambushed. He and one other man made it back to camp. The other died before dawn; Soap didn’t. A vampire medic, quietly aiding soldiers in secret, offered him life before death could take him.
Sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick
Turned: 1940, The Blitz, World War II
Born in London in 1913, Kyle grew up trailing his mother, a midwife in the slums, through the poorest sections of the city. He learned medicine through observation, empathy through necessity, and witnessed the divide between the poor and privileged. When WW2 began, he enlisted in the RAF but was denied front-line duty due to racial restrictions. During the Blitz, while evacuating civilians, he was caught in a bombing. Separated from his group and wounded, Kyle was found by a mysterious textile worker who carried him into a ruined cellar. He awoke hours later, his wounds healed. But his heart? Beating every other minute.
