They were gamers together :'(
Cody is losing badly to Noelle and Jess on the same controller. Krouse isn't trying to win, but rather dog Cody so he loses even more ingloriously.
CONCEPTS FOR TRAVELERS FIC:
Krouse (GM) and Noelle (Echidna arc) get sent back in time to Madison (specifically while Noelle was in hospital and Krouse was considering giving her the vials). Krouse knows what's going on, Noelle initially thinks she's having a trauma flashback. Eventually she does agree to take a vial and he gives her Jaunt (the teleport one) since it was obviously the best. She then dumps him and kicks him out of the Travelers. Rest of the fic is still-feral Noelle going increasingly insane and pining over him while trying (and failing just as badly) to keep her pack of 15 year olds in line. While non-powered Krouse suffers (mansplain, manipulate, manwhore-ingly) in the Interludes.
Due to plot magic somehow all the Travelers are alive and still stuck on Bet post-Leviathan, and Noelle is 'fixed' (still visibly monstrous but like... 7ft instead of 15ft, less ravenous. Smaller tentacles. Still traumatized. Kind of vampiric). They kick the shit out of Krouse and decide to go to China and save Cody. Dinah is also there. She's a Traveler now. She hates it here (classic Traveler). Mission Impossible theme ensues.
Literally any canon-compliant fic about them doing mercenary or heist shit in the two years. At some point Krouse and Cody get handcuffed together and you THINK it's going to be a 'learning to get along' plot but nnnope. Noelle does some vampire shit at some point.

MY favourite commenter on Worm is the guy on one of the earlier chapters of Migration, soon after we figure out that Luke is Ballistic (bc that was a minor mystery during the arc - we didn't know if it was going to be him or Cody, and if so what happened to the other one) speculating that the reason Cody doesn't show up during the main story?
Is because he's Circus.
It all adds up! He left the Travalers bc he doesn't like Krouse! Circus also works for Coil! And Circus - previously referred to as a girl in Taylor's narration - was mentioned to be nonbinary or transfem or something, going as a man in their non-costumed life, just one or two chapters before Migration introduced Cody!
I've connected the dots!
Of course, this was followed by multiple people ignoring Cody/Circus's gender realisation by claiming she did this to fool Trickster, deciding that the best way to work for the same goal as the Travelers without being a Traveler would be to pass as a female villain. (This is not very much more cishet than the trans route) (I think Krouse wrote that comment)
This is my new favourite theory and completely canon.
I made a spreadsheet of every fic that contains greater-than-cameo quantities of The Travelers
Inspired by that one Eidolon fic list.
Do you think Marissa saw Krouse during Gold Morning? Do you think she saw Cody (assuming he was alive)???
Do you think, while being walked from one place to another, made to use her powers again and again, under the power of someone she could barely understand, she looked and saw an old, fallen, unrecognizable friend so close by? Or across the battlefield?
Saw him and thought he may have seen her, but unable to speak, to even say anything, if anything remained to be said, two years since she left him behind, saw his emotionless face and unmoving eyes, not knowing if he even saw her, what he might have been thinking if he did - remorse, nostalgia, homesickness? Hatred, betrayal, longing?
