Atrum being mentored on the ways of the Coeurl with Sayuri Yatsurugi the Golden Coeurlfist !
I was watching a video on if big cats react to catnip and my brain insta jumped to FFXV and coeurls. Would they react? Who would even give it to them? Probably an Ulric. Would Miquote react to it at all? I know that humans can put catnip in tea to help with headaches. Uh…depending on the verse how would Nyx get affected?
I think- in enough amounts it would effect *some* Coeurls? But I know actual cats who don't really give to figs about cat nip, so some would still ignore it.
It was totally an Ulric who tested that out yes.
Hmmmm, I think Miquote would definitely react, personally. They probably use tiny amounts for headaches? But too much and they get loopy.
Uhhhhh, idk that's a bit too variable since I can barely remember half my AUs on a good day.
The other night I calculated that coeurls in Final Fantasy XV are about 5 to 5 1/2 feet tall and if I have to live with that information now, so do you.
Hi! Love your worldbuilding! Question about Àris the beastmaster. As a patron/the role he represents, what did he do? Did he tame beasts? I'm imagining a hunting hound master, as dogs exist/ are canonically able to have magic. I train hunting dogs and hounds- we are an old hunting family. My dad had a hunting cow once. Running through a forest to keep up with bawling hounds is an experience! As is watching a dog get hot on trail by body language alone.
Back to the point: Was Àris an animal tamer? Or something else? Did the Galakari have non human hunting companions? Love your stuff!
He does!
Áris is the one who hunts with animal companions and also the one who leads the chace once Enías has found their prey.
People who have Áris as their patron are generally good with animals and fast on their feet. They are also either very social people, always in the thick of things, or prefer the company of animals. There is no in between.
Yes, the Galahkari did have non human hunting companions. Most popular are a small breed of coeurl, that are the size of akita dogs. (Credit to the Kingsglaive Discord Server for that idea.) Their lightning is powerful enough to stun, but not enough to kill.
Story goes that Áris was the first human on Galahd who got a coeurl to hunt with him and also the one who started breeding them.
Okay, little did you know you struck at another of my interests - crochet. I probably won’t be able to do any work until next year probably, but I procrastinated by looking up amigurumi patterns to adapt. I found “Cat Princess” from stuff the body to be a possibility, or actually there are some giraffe patterns that look pretty easy to make into a more feline shape. Thoughts?
*Sticks ‘cat princess amigurumi’ into google.* Oh that reminds me of old fashioned coeurls that were always shown loafing with the nobly raised heads. The pattern is sitting regular instead of all the way down in a loaf, but it’s nice and sleek and prim like that.
Omg the ones that come up for giraffes are cute. Much more traditional teddy-bear form plush.
I’ve haven’t done much amigurumi yet, mostly I’ve just done blankets. (But while we’re talking about crochet, did you see the granny square blanket created recently for Cor?!) I wouldn’t know alot about how to modify patterns. I’d guess you could modify the tail like in the cat princess one to use for the whiskers? I’m not good at estimating the size of things, but it probably look weird to do them really long especially since it’s stylized anyway. Maybe half the length of that one? The cat princess pattern has a nice shape with the head, so I think if you were to put them right behind the ‘cheek bones’ they might sweep back. For the giraffes...actually you might be able to get away pretty well just moving the horns. With as cute and kiddy as many of those are, it’d be tempting to do something fun with them like leave the firm part about that length and then put an unplushed part from there so they can move and ‘zap.’ I can just picture some kid tying the two ends together to carry around.
Another option would be to find something with parts already coming off the sides of its head to get inspiration from. The only thing I could think of was trilobites. Not sure how helpful those would be.
It might not look as good with many patterns, but FFXV coeurls have very fuzzy whiskers, so I’d kinda be tempted to try some of that fuzzy/furry yarn...even if I’m afraid I’d regret it. Probably just end up braiding it into glorified garland >.>
When I searched earlier today for coeurl/crochet patterns and didn’t get anything, I looked up regular sewing patterns. Now I’m considering modifying a snow leopard pattern. I haven’t done any sewing before, much less to a pattern...which might be a good reason just to give it a shot.
Type: Coeurl Displacer Species: Coeurl Other Names: Displacer Beast, Octo-Cat, Panther Alien, Puma Alien, Dirlagraun (Coeurl Tongue), etc. Location: Coeurl Displacers, along with their Coeurl cousins, are normally found on a distant planet somewhere in the galaxy (exact location is currently unknown), rarely they are found anywhere else unless brought over through different means (such as inter-galactic transporters, cargo ships, etc.) Coloration: Dark blues, dark reds, and black fur, red and green eyes with reflective irises Size: 8'0" to 12'0" feet (adult), 2 1/2 feet (young) Weight: 450 to 600 pounds (adult), 17 pounds (young) Language: Telepathy, Coeurl Tongue Personality: Cunning and sneaky. Coeurl Displacers are agile hunters capable of using their environment to their advantage to a curtain point. If they encounter an intelligent creature such as a human they would play dumb in order to let them come near it (sometime even letting it enter their ship/home/etc.) where it can target its prey with ease Abilities: Being skilled hunters, Coeurl Displacers are considered apex predator on their home planet, more so than their normal Coeurl cousins:
EM Telepathy: By manipulating electromagnetic radiation, Coeurls can communicate telepathically with sentient creatures up to a 100 feet
EM Manipulation: Due to the genetic makeup of a Coeurl, they can manipulate electromagnetic radiation in order to perform feats such as unlocking electronic doors, disrupt machinery, cause sonic damage to robots and some types of constructs and are even resistant to sonic damage themselves
Displacement: Coeurl Displacers, by bending the light around themselves, can appear a foot or two a head of themselves and confusing their prey to great effect
Clawed Tentacles: Coeurls have two long shoulder mounted tentacles that end in suction cups that bear resemblance to that of a squids, with sharp claws attached to the suction cups, allowing Coeurls to grapple and rend their prey or against attacking predators
Id Feeding: Though Coeurls can feed on the flesh of creatures similar to the big cats of earth, their main diet is a substance or energy they call Id that exists within living organisms, what this Id is has been debated with some theorizing it is another term for Phosphorus chemical found within bones and teeth while others argue its Potassium chemical found within meats; not like it matters which chemical Coeurls need as it still involves killing and consuming creatures regardless if its for the meat or the bones
Corrode: Coeurl tentacles emit a brown liquid substance that, if spread on the surface of something thats metal, can eat away metal which can be devastating to creatures such as humans who are using weapons and spaceships who are carrying captured Coeurl specimens. The substance can also corrode the flesh and bones of creatures too if hit by the substance
Blind Senses: Coeurls have keen senses of smell and hearing which allows them to sense any prey nearby up to 60 feet of itself (mostly by noticing vibrations and other environmental clues) however creatures out of view of a Coeurl, and out of range, are completely concealed from them
Maul: Like Earth's big cats, Coeurls can use their claws and fangs to rip and tear their attackers or prey to pieces if their tentacles aren't able to latch onto the creature
Info: Coeurl Displacers are a breed of Coeurl native to a distant planet within the galaxy. They are dangerous predators who hunt creatures in order to feed their need for what they call in their tongue Id, what ever this Id is it involves killing and devouring whatever creature they catch. Normally they are not found on Earth but a inter-galactic cargo ship transporting a Coeurl Displacer (along with a few other alien specimens) was hit by a large asteroid and crash landed on Earth, landing in the Gravity Falls and releasing the Coeurl Displacer onto the quite town Displacer Beast (c) Wizards of the Coasts, Dungeons and Dragons Coeurl (c) A. E. van Vogt, Black Destroyer, The Voyage of the Space Beagle
Hunting invasive Coeurls in the Black Shroud alongside @dynamitecowboy and the folks from Behemoth’s Rest! They were given the task of relocating and/or culling the invasive group, and got a bit more than they bargained for. Unfortunately one of them had to be put down, but it was done with respect.
Sunday Morning with the Purrs
Sunday mornings were a blessed time. With a later start to his working day, Ignis could remain in the sacred comfort of his bed that little bit longer, taking the time to enjoy a lie-in as he snuggled into the warmth of his duvet and continued to sleep blissfully.
Except-
It started with a gentle weight landing on the foot of the bed, the curious sniff of a leathery nose to the soles of his feet -exposed as his duvet had became tangled around his body in the night- then a sandpaper-like tongue licking at his heel.
Still caught in sleep’s deep grasp, Ignis shifted and murmured a small protest as his toes twitched instinctively. His attacker remained persistent, moving down to lap at his right arch. The feel of the coarse tongue against the sensitive skin made Ignis giggle light-headedly, dragging him away from his dreams.
In his confused half-awake-half-asleep state, Ignis pulled his right foot up into the safety of his duvet but this only caused the electric tickling feeling to shift its focus to his bare left sole instead. Ignis squeaked and smiled and quickly moved to protect his feet, even as another weight landed on the bed next to his head. A ball of fluff head-butted Ignis in the face and he finally opened his eyes. He was confronted by a blurry orange face with bright green eyes and a red collar- his coeurl cat Salvius. Ignis rolled onto his back to retrieve his glasses from the bedside table and Rosmarina -his other coeurl cat with the blue collar- took this as an opportunity to walk up the bed and onto his chest.
“Good morning, gorgeous,” Ignis murmured once he could see the pair of troublemakers in crystal clear clarity. He patted Rosmarina’s head sleepily and she arched up into his touch, purring happily at the attention. His feet still tingled, but he knew there were worse ways of being shocked awake by his hungry cats. “I suppose you two will be wanting breakfast.”
Rosmarina rubbed up against his hand while Salvius nuzzled his cheek in confirmation. This was Ignis’s own fault for forgetting to shut his bedroom door.
“Come on then- let me get up!” Ignis said, shifting so that his cats jumped away while he pulled himself out of bed.
It looked like that lie-in would have to wait.
A little fanfic I wrote inspired by @pluma-azurea‘s Ignis and Coeurls artwork, can be found here- https://pluma-azurea.tumblr.com/post/178127231014/domestic-au-house-purrs-thought-id-make-an These purrs are adorable!
