thinking of a drarry coffeshop!au
draco is in muggle london for work, but got lost on the tube and is running late - but he NEEDS coffee. he plans to get into the closest coffee shop to where he is, in and out but gets to the counter and realises that’s going to be difficult. he never could easily escape the orbit that is harry potter.
harry works at a muggle coffee shop. he tried the aurors, he REALLY did, but there was no way he could be the person they wanted him to be. and so he finds a job that brings him close to people, where he can take time to think, and not be recognised. no one knows really, outside of his close circle, and he never thought anyone would. and yet. yet he sees blonde white hair and knows that his peace is about to be ruined. and he is preemptively ANGRY. ready to fight him even before he sees all the emotions play out on draco’s face - tiredness, shock, surprise, fear, smugness.
smugness. that he hates and makes him angry and he wants to make draco shut up, before he even spoke.
« a cappuccino, please » is all he says. until: « cute apron, potter ».
to remove that smile off his face, harry would do anything. but his manager is right THERE and he can’t say anything back, really. so he makes a cappuccino, and decides to annoy him and add vanilla. stupid, but malfoy does not look like a vanilla sort of guy.
he puts a fake smile on and says « glad i could be eye candy for you, malfoy. you seem like you need it ».
malfoy smile falters and harry feels like he won. malfoy tastes the coffee, blushes a little, and harry feels like he has stumbled, and yet stayed completely still.
it is the most charged coffee interaction of all time - and draco keeps coming back. harry still puts vanilla in his coffee. slowly, it stops being out of spite.
