Once Upon a Time...

Do you like fairy tales but find yourself wishing they weren't always so hetero-normative?

You're not alone. That's why we feel it's time to shake things up a bit and give some of these stories an LGBT+ update.

And that's exactly what this event is looking to do! This summer we invite you to re-imagine a classic story, or come up with one all your own, starring Fairy Tail characters!

Event Information

Dates: August 23 - August 26

Submissions: Anything that inspires you - art, fics of any length, poetry, aesthetics, edits, head canons, etc.. Both ship and platonic entries are welcome. The most important aspect is that the piece focus on an LGBT+ character(s).

Prompts: We've chosen two different tropes for each day from here that we thought might be fun, but you are welcome to pick others if they inspire you more!

sometimes you need a fun au to chew on for vibes

anyways thinking again about a "still villains" cojeel au

it either takes place in a "Phantom Lord wins the fairy-phantom war" OR "Phantom Lord loses but immediately becomes a dark guild/Gajeel doesnt join Fairy Tail" timeline, but the former has the most impact on plot potential

either way Jose is cranking up the shadiest business shit like never before, and that kind of blatant mess might catch the eye of say... the Balaam Alliance

and Oracion Seis are kind of the keepers of the lesser dark guilds for the Alliance, because let's face it the underworld in Fiore has a sort of structure (hence why the Alliance exists)

so the Phantoms need to be checked out, so Brain decides arrange some kind of probationary interview/business meeting and Jose accepts bc holy shit that would result in lots of money/power (+bc he's definitely heard of the Alliance as a former Saint, maybe less so the Seis individually considering the Council knew so little about them)

and they need to bring a couple backup enforcers for appearances and show of power

Jose brings Gajeel (primary, obv) and Aria (without knowing who/what to expect having a guy who can temp nullify magic is a good idea)

Brain brings Midnight (primary + similar idea of having someone that can reflect magic etc) and Cobra (obv, there for intel gathering mostly)

Brain flatout tells Cobra before they go thay "[jose] Will likely bring his second in command, who is a dragonslayer, this will also be a good test for you" which just serves to make cobra a lil pissy before the meeting bc ew a 1st gen/old style dragonslayer

and that's how cojeel first meets in the au

I imagine first impressions are

Cobra: "wow this guy has 1 thing on his mind and that's violence, talk about recklessness"

Gajeel: [trying to figure out why all the other dragonslayers he's met so far are so fucking short???] "this guy is like four feet tall i could step on him and it'd be over"

they would be SO messy in the most fun and blood filled way possible; i dont have a TON more for this au - it's mostly for fun rn

Headcanons

Gajeel and Erik 🐍🐉

Both had known each other since they were kids but didnt know it due to memory tampering due to a spell and given horrible masters.

Were the most destructive of their guild and only sent out if absolute desperate sitautions

Hated each other at first due to being almost equals and having a rivalry with both dark guilds. Blue Skull and Oracion Seis were rivals

Erik was Gajeel's boss when it came to control with dark guilds which is why they met in secret

Gajeel only tolerates Fairy Tail and during off days hangs out with Erik

Gajeel knows Cobra's real name is Erik, but most of the time never calls him that out of respect since it brings out bad memories of slave days. When they are alone is when its appropriate

Gajeel has a strong resistance to Erik's poison and due to this the poison dragon slayer knows they can spar without any precautions

Erik sometimes trips Gajeel up by saying he can hear his thoughts which are great distractions and disadvantages to win an argument

When on missions they usually leave no survivors since Erik could read their minds so no reason for it. Also wouldnt want any need for new enemies for the future. They learned that after saving the kids for slave traders

After the misdeeds of the Phantom Lord Troupe came to light and it subsequently disbanded, it became very difficult for the members to find work. Juvia and Gajeel landed in Fairy Tail's Fantasia show, but the others split off to vastly different places. Totomaru became an instructor rather than set up with a new group and be forced to learn a new dynamic. After a number of years, and a failed romance with fellow performer Gray, Juvia decides to look up her old friends and see how they're doing. In so doing, she reunites with Totomaru and new feelings surface between the changed man and changed woman.

It was well known that Gajeel, along with the other first and third generation dragon slayers, had traveled through time twice - but what wasn't known was that Gajeel had accidentally done so much more than that. It wasn't much - up to an hour at most and only once per day - but it had been enough to avoid his death a number of times (if not every other humiliation). But then something strange happens - Cobra happens to "hear" the echoes that one of young Gajeel's time shifts causes, all the way back at the Tower of Heaven. Compelled to track down the source, Cobra begins to hunt for the sound that has come to echo in his own heart.
