Every day for twenty-seven years, the family of Glenda Carter has missed by her family. To her three children, she was a doting mother. They remember her as a kind and loving woman, whose generosity knew no bounds. Glenda also had a fantastic sense of humor. There was a natural glow about her that could warm up any room. The world felt colder after Glenda’s death, and almost three decades later, her loved ones are still wondering who took her away from them.
The last time anyone saw Glenda Carter alive between 11 PM of May 24, 1992, and 3 AM the following day. Twelve hours later, her body was found discarded on trial behind a residential area in Portland, Oregon. The coroner ruled her cause of death as strangulation.
Glenda was relatively new to the area. She moved to Portland five months prior so she could be closer to one of her daughters and grandchildren. True to her bubbly, social nature, it did not take long for Glenda to find a new crowd of friends. Some would say it was the wrong type of crowd. Throughout her life, Glenda struggled with an on-and-off again battle with drug addiction. It is widely speculated that an altercation relating to drugs was the motivation behind the killing.
Investigators made few details of evidence in the case public. Around the time of her murder, Glenda was seeing a man named Richard. The Portland police could not uncover much information about this man, including a last name. They hope to get in contact with her boyfriend again and do not consider him a current suspect.
David Simpson, a Portland Detective, remains optimistic that the case can be closed. “Sometimes, people think the case was solved and they know something, but they didn’t tell anybody because they thought it was managed and handled at that time,” he told FOX12 news in May 2019. “Of course, in this case, it wasn’t.”
