Too cold to produce flames

Watching Ben 10 2005 and here comes season 1 episode 12 Side Effects. Ben transforms into Heatblast while having a cold and his flames are blue. I think "Of course, hotter blue flames due to the fever might mean hotter flames but a quicker burnout." And then he's too cold for fire and shoots ice instead.

This is my attempt at rectifying this because they could have done something that didn't look like fire, you know? The rocks were always reddish but the whole ice thing could have been translated visually in a better way.
