Josef Albers’s Interaction of Color is a fun exercise with colors.
Albers’ experimental way of studying and teaching color was groundbreaking for artists. Albers thought that the scientific system of color had little practical value for artists. He initially developed his color course while he was teaching at the Black Mountain College before fully developing it at Yale University with the publication of Interaction of Color in 1963. In the course, students learned to see how color behaved differently in varying combinations.
“Moving from simple to complex, with many exercises exploring the ramifications of a previous one, the course awakened the students to the quirks and variables of color behavior. The course was not a fixed body of color wisdom, but rather an ongoing inquiry in which solutions were not conclusions, but steps on an endless path. – from The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation’s website
