May 10, 2011 - Still Alive
Raced from 2013-Still Actively Racing?
Thoroughbred Stallion - United States
While it's not known why he was given his name, it's a horse-like play on the popular Transformers character and leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime.
Finishing 7th in his debut as a two year old, Coltimus went on to win his second start before entering and finishing second in the Display Stakes at Woodbine. At three he entered and finished 9th in the Tampa Bay Derby and 5th in the Blue Grass Stakes. With it looking like he wouldn't make the starting gate for the Kentucky Derby, he returned to Woodbine. Once there he placed second in an allowance before winning another allowance in June.
With that allowance win, he went to enter in the first race of Canada's Triple Crown, the Queen's Plate Stakes where he finished 9th. Coltimus then entered the second race, the Prince of Wales Stakes and won going wire to wire to win the biggest race of his career. He finished up the rest of his three year old year finishing second in the Ontario Derby, and 7th in the Hagyard Fayette Stakes.
He returned to race in 2015, but he did not return to form. He raced five times in 2015, his best efforts were two 4th place finishes in Allowance Optional Claiming races. In his other three races he finished 10th or worse. His most recent race was on November 11, finishing 11th in an Allowance Optional Claiming.
Horse Racing Nation still currently lists him as Active, but there is no current workouts nor any stud information I could find. He has his own Twitter and Facebook, but none currently give any news on his status. Hopefully he's getting the winter off to relax and be a horse!
