I love my Coluan OC

His name is Ruen Fal.

He is an archeologist deeply compelled by and fascinated by Coluan history before the Computer Tyrants' reign on Colu. The Tyrants left practically nothing to study as they "optimized" their society and purged what they felt unnecessary, which included much of their written history.

Yes, his name is a pun.

@fire-fira had a lovely headcanon for Coluans being spotted like deer on their backs. Because they typically dress fairly modestly however, no one knows they have them typically.

In an unsurprising and totally expected twist, Colu's hatred and fear of sentient artificial life drove them to engineer the Metallo Virus which led to The Great Shutdown and resulted in a Tezuka-esque end of the near complete extinction of inorganic life. There's not many redeeming qualities the Coluan council possess as they have admitted to being complacent in everything from genocide (that very well could have been done in any of their lives) to being willing to sell an autistic coded child.

Can you answer question for this for me? I have been reading LoSH but I cannot find if the comic ever said what Coluans are. The cartoon that got me into LoSH had all of them as robots, and even the CW show said they were 50% computer I think. But as I read it looks like they are organic. So in the comics what are they?

All of the above depending on what is necessary for the plot, honestly.

The PZH run has them mostly organic but because they are such an advanced species it is clear that there is some tech involved in their biology. The Sleep Net is one such clue because they are using their conscious to access a data stream to communicate and it's not telepathy - that's likely tech - but we don't know because these are aliens with a profoundly different neurological architecture to our own.

I think there were a few other times where their biology was mentioned in this run but I cannot recall them clearly.

My personal headcanon is their species is just so advanced they found perfect harmony with technology and nature and it bleeds so smoothly for them they really are in synthesis between both just because of the ambiguity but this is a headcanon as far as I know.

I'll open this to further conversation because I cannot remember specific issues or panels where this comes up.

Legion of Super-Heroes (1989) #108

We don't see a whole lot of Coluan culture, and they were an enslaved population to the Computer Tyrants for several generations until Vril Dox II freed them, so it is debatable how much of their culture survived prior to their freeing. We're not sure about anything regarding their sense of loss or if they spent 1000 years since then making new customs and traditions to replace what was taken from them.

However I always liked this particular page as we get to see some architecture, ART, and Coluan fashion that is not a jumpsuit.

We're not sure what these statues mean or who they are or what they represent, but Coluans have them and they must mean something.

In context of the comic, we can fairly interpret them as being foreshadowing the moment; the pleading one vs the stern one turning away. It could have been a metaphorical choice on the artist's part to represent abandonment, or it could have been entirely accidental.
