My commission of Brainiac 5 and Spock play 3-D chess sketch cover by Jeffrey Moy
This idea came to me because of the Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes crossover event that the Moys did the art for.
I thought that Brainy playing the Star Trek version of chess would be a great interaction between the two. Of course we needed to show Brainy utilizing the Colouan Gambit.
Two of the seven lanterns I'm working on for the AU. I thought a Thangarian symbol of hope and a Coluan symbol of Compassion were pretty fun concepts, especially in relation to each other.
Thyra
she/her
"You've made it very difficult for me to offer you mercy, but I have not given up. Hopefully you will be more amenable when you regain consciousness."
A rising Thanagarian military prodigy turned conscientious objector, Thyra was chosen by her ring while sitting in a cell awaiting trial for the crime of sedition. Despite her moral crisis, Thyra still believes in her people, and her unwavering faith in the idea of a post-colonialist Thanagar keeps her blue light glowing.
Though she finds war and combat distasteful and would rather lead a life of non-violence, she is unable to let her mace rest, because in her eyes, to do so would be at the cost of her the safety of those who don't have the choice that her skill and power provides her. So she fights on, hoping to one day be able to reconcile the person she wants to be with the person she still needs to be.
Dyl
They/them
“Of course I care about your grief. I simply care more about solving the problem that causes it."
A naturally occurring 10th level intelligence, Dyl's brilliance earned them the ire of their fellow students, who eventually revealed their hidden plans for technological wonders outside of the parameters of the Colu 's mandated limit on progress. After deciding that they had to be dealt with, the council used Dyl's general lack of emotion and empathy and a fabricated list of crimes to paint Dyl as a dangerous sociopath, and convince Indigo-1 to claim them into the tribe. But having committed no actual acts of cruelty, and without guilt on their heart, Dyl was able to accept the ring willingly, while maintaining their personality....with the added caveat that their previously dulled emotions suddenly became more vibrant, and distracting.
Deciding to stay with the tribe while they figured out their next moves and processed their life through the lens of a wide spectrum of new feelings, Dyl uses their vast intellect and newfound empathetic understanding of themselves and others to bring compassionate solutions to a universe that desperately needs them.
(The Legion of Superheroes in the 31st Century #4): Well, this is insightful. Coluan society seems very strict, austere and cold. No parents. Education from within the womb. I still can't tell if Coluans are robots or aliens. I realise they're probably just meant to be aliens, but I prefer thinking of them as robots. That's just me, though. I'm fine with other opinions on this matter. I definitely love the design of Brainiac Five, though.
@fire-fira had a lovely headcanon for Coluans being spotted like deer on their backs. Because they typically dress fairly modestly however, no one knows they have them typically.
