The Coma Cluster, Abell 1656 // Joschi
One of the densest clusters known, the Coma cluster of galaxies is 323 million light years, which is both unimaginably far, yet not at the same time.
In this picture alone there's almost 1000 galaxies all bunched together, each with billions of stars like our own galaxy.
So if you're feeling insignificant, or wondering about your place in this life, just look up to the great leveler, our universe. Trying to imagine just 100 billion stars in the Milky Way, is one thing, but this image is 1000+ of them, and probably more so.
Knowing everybody that ever has been, or ever will be is insignificant in that context, is a comforting thing, it's not just you!
But there's something about gazing upon it, understanding the sheer magnitude of our universe, that adds value and context to our daily challenges and trials, or you can look at that idiot in your office/class and just smile, you've got a image of near eternity, while they can barely comprehend the depths of their ridiculousness.
During the early 1930s, Fritz Zwicky, a professor of astronomy at the California Institute of Technology (a famously caustic scientist whose appreciation for symmetry led him to call his colleagues spherical bastards because, he explained, they were bastards any way you looked at them), realized that the outlying galaxies in the Coma cluster, a collection of thousands of galaxies some 370 million light-years from earth, were moving too quickly for their visible matter to muster an adequate gravitational force to keep them tethered to the group.

In fact, the Coma Cluster is so big it takes light millions of years just to go from one side to the other! This picture was created at the WWW site Skyview, a "virtual observatory" where it is possible to view any part of the sky in wavelengths from radio to gamma-ray."

Each of these galaxies houses billions of stars - just as our own Milky Way Galaxy does. Although nearby when compared to most other clusters, light from the Coma Cluster still takes hundreds of millions of years to reach us. In fact, the Coma Cluster is so big it takes light millions of years just to go from one side to the other. Most galaxies in Coma and other clusters are ellipticals, while most galaxies outside of clusters are spirals. The nature of Coma's X-ray emission is still being investigated.
