Combo Time: Them Good Seas
Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt / 23rd Annual SAG Awards (jan. 29, 2017)
Combo Time!
I was retooling my Alesha commander deck last night when I realized that the deck had come into a cute little combo:
As long as I have a creature card in hand and one in my graveyard, every black mana I spend nets me a bat token. It’s not the greatest combo ever, but it’s neat and efficient and I’ve never seen anyone mention it before. :D
How does Ashling the pilgrim and scythe of the wretched interact
Quite well!
At the very least, Scythe of the Wretched, if equipped to Ashling, will return Ashling to the battlefield when the second part of her activated ability resolves and reattach itself to her.
Additionally, any creatures killed by Ashling’s activated ability will also be returned to the battlefield under your control by Scythe. Assuming that Ashling also killed herself, you’ll get to choose the order of the Scythe triggers and can stack them so that Ashling is the last creature returned and thus the one equipped with the Scythe.
(Of course, this all works best when Ashling has Deathtouch from something like Basilisk Collar.)
This combo wins both flavorfully and in terms of gameplay synergy! Yay!
I've seen a lot of discourse about it on various websites, and I've never seen it resolved. Does Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood work?
Yes.
Whenever you gain life or an opponent loses life, one of the two enchantments will trigger. When that trigger resolves, it will trigger the other enchantment. That trigger resolving triggers the first enchantment again, etc. The net result here is that any opponent you can target ends up dead and you win (unless an opponent has hexproof or shroud.)
For example, you control both enchantments. Your opponent is at 20 life. You attack an opponent for 2, causing them to lose 2 life and go to 18. Exquisite Blood triggers and you gain 2 life when that trigger resolves. Sanguine Bond triggers from you gaining life. When Sanguine Bond’s trigger resolves, your opponent loses 2 life and goes to 16. This triggers Exquisite Blood again and the loop repeats. After nine iterations of the loop, your opponent will be at 0 life and will lose the game.
Yes, the new Nissa will survive if you control Oath of Gideon and cast her with X=0. She’ll enter the battlefield with one loyalty counter on her due to the replacement effect from Oath of Gideon.
You’ve heard of Copy Cat Combo? Try it in this exciting new flavor!
Liliana, Death’s Majesty targets Felidar Guardian in your graveyard with her -3 ability.
Felidar Guardian enters the battlefield and blinks Liliana.
Sacrifice Felidar Guardian to some repeatable sacrifice effect that can win you the game. (Blasting Station shown here as an example.)
