Character Study

‘Bart’ played by Cleavon Little Blazing Saddles (1974) Cleavon Little portrayed a groundbreaking and positive representation of a Black hero in a Western comedy. Bart's character is celebrated for its role in challenging racial stereotypes in cinema. Today, the film and its characters are regarded as important cultural landmarks in the history of American comedy and satire. Bart, played by Cleavon Little is the film's protagonist and the first Black sheriff in the fictional town of Rock Ridge. He is intelligent, quick-witted, and calm under pressure. Despite facing racism and prejudice from some of the townsfolk, Bart uses his wit and charm to win over the community and ultimately bring law and order to the chaotic town. His character serves as a symbol of resilience and progress in the face of bigotry, making him a central figure in the satirical Western comedy.

THE RIDICULOUS 6 (2015)

Directed by Frank Coraci. Starring Adam Sandler, Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider and Luke Wilson.

“I really do think that Adam Sandler has officially lost the plot. I wasn’t expecting this movie to be great but I thought there would at least be a few decent laughs. I loved the cast and the story wasn’t too bad (albeit a little too long) but I only laughed a handful of times and even that was only on the inside. I thought the sets looked brilliantly lame and some of the characters were funny but generally it was quite a disappointment.”

A Million Ways to Die in The West - Movie Review

although Consistently amusing and sometimes very funny, this comedy western falls short due to its bloated length and jokes that fail to progress.

Seth McFarlane fairs better with his comic timing and delivery often saving a few of the not so good jokes, and with a good supporting cast often able to make jokes better than they actually are.

The length here is the main problem, with it clocking in at about 2hrs the film therefore meanders at times and can go through long stretches without many jokes.

The story for the most part seems to be fairly joke free affair, with the romance and evil villain story being played very straight. With Liam Neeson playing the villain admirably, it's a shame he isn't given any jokes.

The jokes also felt a little repetitive, with many of the same jokes reoccurring throughout the film just in a slightly different form. This means that most of the jokes never seem to evolve or grow with the film.

Overall the film an ok comedy western that just needed some more jokes in more places and needed to be a bit more self-assured. But it will still make you laugh out loud in places.
