joseph wilson / jericho reading list!

jericho is one of my favorite underappreaciated characters of all time and you don't see too many reading lists for him so I MADE MY OWN.

this is his full list of [what i deem to be important] appearances from the 80s until rebirth!!

If you've never read anything with Joey i do recommend starting with rebirth or his pre-crisis incarnation, NOT with new 52 because we pretend that doesn't exist.

PRE-CRISIS

[most of jericho's appearances in the 80s just follow Tales of the Teen Titans into New Teen Titans (1984) so i'll just be listing the ones that are most important for HIM specifically as a character since he appears a lot during this era.]

Tales of the Teen Titans #42 - 44 + Annual #3 - his first appearance AKA the judas contract!

Tales of the Teen Titans #45-48, 50-52, 56-58 - (personal favs for joe: #45, 48, 50-52, 58) [he's not there but #53-55 include slade stuff and context for future issues]

The New Teen Titans (1984) #1-12, Annual #1 - (most of 1-12 is pretty important for future issues, annual is skippable)

Crisis on Infinite Earths #3-5, 9 (not necessary, but the events of the aftermath of the crisis do affect his character so if you want context you can read the event)

Do you have any recommendations or references for how to start reading about different dc characters? I mainly want to start reading about batman and the rest of his clan but I want to branch out to other characters as well

hi!! i've gotten this question a lot and i'm so sorry it's taken me so long to answer all of y'all! but i wanted to make sure if i made a list, it would be with the best references i could find, and that it made sense for even a beginner

what i've found is that... there's apparently no right answer? mostly, you'll find people recommending you to start with their favorite collections, like Batman: Hush, etc etc. from what i've been able to tell, getting into comics is about choosing one that sounds the most interesting to you, and going from there. if you like the collection you've picked up, then someone will recommend another collection, so on. a lot of people recommend that you start with a certain character, someone that you really like. so if Tim Drake is calling to you like many... many people, then you can find a reading guide for him and pick and choose from a collection. like this one from this blogger that helped me. one of my favorite characters is Cassandra Cain (though I don't write her as often, which kind of happens when I really like a character?). she has a Batgirl run!! Batgirl #1. (((please note that this link takes you to readallcomics.com, which you should use an adblocker for if you want to use this website. however!! it is very different from readcomics.com))) look how cool she is!!

however I personally like to try and read in chronological order because I don't like missing out on anything. in my search, i found an amazingly ordered, extensive website called comicbookherald.com

i started using this because they have a list in chronological order for many, many, many characters in the DC universe:

one of the very first options on this list is Batman (listed in alphabetical), and when you click on him, you'll find exactly what you're looking for:

the links on the actual titles in the list will take you to Amazon to buy the comic, but there are other ways to find these comics either online (like seen above with Batgirl #1) or through your local library (recommended). if your library doesn't have them, you might be able to find them at a nearby one or you can ask the librarian how a request works. they'd probably be happy to get it for you (support your local libraries!!!) you might find that you prefer going to a comic shop, and that's great too

i also looked up the publication history of the Batman comics using Wikipedia, just to make sure that I knew what i was doing, and i started with the very first on the list: Detective Comics #27. this is Bruce Wayne/Batman's very first appearance.

the issue is that it's pretty hard to read all of the characters at once and stay in order, which means you'll probably want to stick to reading one character at a time and piecing it together like that. but if you're feeling brave, i'd cross reference the years and publication history and go by the order of when each character shows up: start by reading Batman, and when Dick Grayson appears, look up his list and see how the publication history looks, and i guess start trying to read them side by side? the same would go for when Jason appears, then Tim, etc etc. but this might be VERY difficult, so i am very much recommending beginners to start by reading Batman's and branch out from there

my personal favorite right now is Batman & Robin: Year One because Dick Grayson is in it and he's so cute here in his Robin days

Duke Thomas is an amazing character and I am more than happy to help you learn more about his character!

I am by no means an expert but I can give you a place to start. He is a relatively new character (his first appearance was in 2013) so this list won't be too long.

I am generally following this reading order/list for the most part which also includes non essential appearances you can check out. They are in order of release.

Batman #37-38

We Are Robin #1-6

Robin War: (this was an event and is spread out over a number of titles so it requires its own mini reading list that you can check out if you follow this link)

We Are Robin #7-12

Batman #42-45

Batman #46-50

All Star Batman #1-9

Batman and The Signal #1-3

Batman and the Outsiders #1-17

There are a few others comics where he has an important role but these are the ones that most focus on him. There are also a few elseworld stories that feature him, but those aren't part of the main continuity so I didn't include those.

Personally I adore the We Are Robin comics because it gives us a lot of amazing new characters and some of the best Duke characterization.

My most recent story takes place in the We Are Robin arc, and that is where the majority of the supporting cast comes from. I do take elements from later arcs (such as his metahuman powers and the main villain of the story) but you don't have to read all of Duke's appearances for those elements to make sense within the story.

Who is....Ruth Aldine | Blindfold? A Reading Guide

Ruth Aldine in an X-Men affiliated mutant from Marvel comics first introduced in 2004. She was born with no eyes or open eye sockets and due to her mutant condition her father left her, her mother, and her older brother only a week after her birth. Spending her childhood tormented by her abusive older brother, Ruth would eventually find freedom and happiness only after her mother had died protecting her from her brother's attempt on her life. Now living with her aunt, Ruth would begin to teach herself to harness and control her extensive mutant powers, but her brother's execution would result in him stealing half of her powers and her being sent to the Xavier Institute, where she first received her codename, Blindfold.

Ruth is currently the girlfriend of Professor Xavier's son, David Haller, and does not have a corporeal form on Krakoa, instead living inside of David's head. David has however as of 3. May. 2023 blinked himself out of existence and Ruth's fate is unknown.

Ruth was born in North Carolina and it is implied that she is from the Appalachian region of the state!

This gets picked back up following Necrosha (explained below).

Age of X (sort of)

The mutants are almost extinct, tortured by a strike force led by Colonel Graydon Creed. The first signs of the Age of X appeared in X-Men: Legacy #244; the events were removed from the Earth-616 mainstream continuity, with no memories of the alternate lives. If you've taken a look at my David Haller Reading List you'll see this event explained as "David’s desire to be loved forces him to grapple with reality," and as a story that "places David in a role where he has to choose between a false universe where he is considered a beloved hero and reality where he must choose to be a hero despite the fear others feel about him." Ruth's appearances here are still pretty connected to the X-Men: Legacy (2008) plotline we've been following now for a bit.

New Mutants (2009) #22, 24, 27

Curse of the Mutants

In what can only be described as the "oh shit we've run out of ideas" last resort of any creative company putting out too many crossover events in a short period of time..... the X-Office put out Curse of the Mutants. The arc centers on a human bomb exploding in San Francisco's Union Square, covering dozens in vampire-converting blood. It then becomes the mission of the X-Men to track down Dracula's son Xarus, now "Lord of the Vampires", even if that means enlisting vampire-hunter Blade. Yeah.... I don't know either.

X-Men (2010) #11

Schism and Regenesis

Schism follows the break-up of the X-Men at a moment of peak anti-mutant sentiment. Regenesis is the period of regrowth and reorganization following Schism.

Avengers vs. X-Men

When the Phoenix Force approaches Earth, Hope Summers is assumed its next host. The X-Men and the Avengers are divided on how to handle the situation. The X-Men believe that the Phoenix Force will herald the rebirth of the Mutant Species, while the Avengers believe that it will bring an end to all life on Earth. This leads to a war between Marvel's two powerful superhero factions.

Legion: Son of X

This is where Ruth's path first crosses with the professor's son, David Haller, in any real meaningful way. It does however mold her story around his and start the descent of her story into being focused around David rather than Ruth.

X-Men: Legacy (2013) #1-24

Ruth has a handful of blink and you'll miss it appearances between Son of X and This is Forever but they aren't..... really important at all and don't really do anything to tell Ruth's story.

This is Forever

The X-Men are all presumed dead, but this isn't the case.

Legion of X and Before the Fall

Ruth Aldine is back from the dead.... and is now living inside of David Haller's head rather than having a body, and oh did we mention that she now pretty much has no motivations that don't revolve around David and is only seen when she can promote David?..... As a David fan, I am exhausted.

New Teen Titans help

OK so New Teen Titans comic series has some confusion because it's called the New Teen Titans, but you may notice if you're reading it online sometimes you run out of stuff to read at issue #40.

This is because the comic title changes during the run. They also were inconsistent as to whether they reset to #1 after the re-titling, another thing that added confusion.

They also later re-title some stuff that was originally published under "Tales of the Teen Titans" as "New Teen Titans (vol2)", however each issue has different numbering. Basically, to read:

Issue 1-40: New Teen Titans (vol 1)

Issue 41-91: Tales of the Teen Titans. HOWEVER you can stop at Issue 59 here, because -

Issue 60-91 of Tales of the Teen Titans CORRESPOND to issue 1-31* of New Teen Titans vol 2 So you can find the same comic under "Tales of the Teen Titans #60" AND "New Teen Titans (vol 2) #1". It is the exact same story!

Issue 32-49 (of the second series): New Teen Titans (vol 2) - they have dropped the Tales of the Teen Titans thing, so hopefully it is less confusing at this state because it is now only being published under one title, rather than having the same comic with two different names and numbers.

Issue 50 onward: They continue the numbering from NTT vol 2 but are now titled "The New Titans".

*You may be like "wait 1-31 is 31 comics, but 60-91 is 32 comics, clearly one is missing. No, the comic labelled Tales of the Teen Titans 81 got turned into New Teen Titans vol 2 annual #2, so there still are 32 comics that were labelled "Tales of the Teen Titans" and then reprinted under the "New Teen Titans vol 2"
