So I watched some episodes of the Runaways TV show and to be honest, it didn't really appeal that much to me. I expected that there would be some changes from the comic, but I didn't think it would diverge so much from the source material. I really wish they'd pulled a Harry Potter and used as much of the comic as they could. There would still be some changes, I imagine, but it wouldn't be as different. I know some people feel differently, but that's how I felt.

Here's partly how the throat-slice went down in the comics. Rick argues with Negan that they have plenty of undead enemies and shouldn't be fighting each other. He asks what exactly Negan is fighting for? They're fighting for a world without Negan (groups not being insular but being open and helping each other. And certainly not killing each other.) He says by uniting, their groups could do so much good and make a new, better future. Negan thinks it over...and agrees. And as he's seeing this new world and new way of living unfold before his eyes - he gets sliced.

I love how it seems like they are playing into Maggie and Jesus's great relationship. They are a strong force in the comics and I hope they play into that in the show.

I’m in love with your tags on 10 year old five holding a grudge on Vanya because of dessert. Also, I think it’s so funny that the show is the exact opposite and Vanya is the one Five tolerates the most. I like that they did that, they gave Five more humanity in the show

That's one of my absolute favorite dualities of the mediums. I love that the comics make the Hargreeves harsh and cold and brutal to one another, but then the show allows them to be a family and actually love each other deep, uh, deep down. I love both. It makes it even more fun to mix them up when writing fic, because it's both canon anyway.

And I adore the way they changed Five and Vanya's relationship for the show. Don't get me wrong, their dynamic in the comics is fine, but they barely interacted at all, making his attempt to kill her less emotionally impactful. The way they built Five up to care about Vanya in the show, and her to Five, plays with our sympathy. Comic Five had no problem shooting Vanya in the head to save the world-- They barely spoke, never even really cared for one another anyway. Its perfectly in character for him. But.

Show Five and Vanya have history. He was her sole confidant. She left the lights on for him. He's the only one who's room she didn't blow out. She's the only one he's soft with. The subtext shows us they care very deeply for each other, so it makes it that much more meaningful when Five continues to love and protect Vanya, who is the cause of the apocalypse-- his hell.

He should want to kill her more than anything, but he doesn't. He loves her. I eat that shit up, man.

I was really surprised in the show how quick they rushed Gregory's attempt to take over. And how little buildup the Rose family got. Then again, Carl is a major point of the storyline. In the show, they made the Rose son get killed by walkers/a horse kick and he seemed like a nice kid. In the comics he was a piece of shit bully who beat up little kids and his whole family were basically like Maga white trash. Then he fucks with Carl...
