So I'm kind of stunned right now. How's the day been for you? Because for me...well I can't even comprehend it.
I'll be honest and say at the start of the day I was dreading it. I dread the moment before I put my costume on cause I have my same doubts every time. I'm not a good Batman. I'm overweight and look stupid in spandex. People are going to make fun of me.
But I push through it cause I know I'm going to have a blast. Every time that costume goes on I have a good time and today was no exception. I walked into the store with Megan and I see a couple of kids notice me immediately and are just kind of awestruck. Either that or terrified but they didn't seem upset so I'm going with awestruck. And that was how most of the day went. And I got the same reactions from young and old. There's a man I often see at the comic store, he spends so much on comics and he just kind of gasped when he saw me in costume. He actually forgot his camera and said that he had to go home right away grab it and come back to take a photo.
Not long after I got to the store, Joe comes up to me with my weekly comics and says, here, you don't have to pay for them. I'm kind of shocked and couldn't believe it. So I asked if he was sure and he said yes and gave them to me. Then later on he comes up to me with a pile of comics. These are every variant of DC comics this month that has Batman on the cover to celebrate the 75th. He says you can have them if you want them.
There's a cape for the 75th that they're giving away in the raffle, he gave me another one of those. They had the four little masks, he gave me one of each. There was a poster for the 75th with a timeline. He gave me that. This all felt like way too much and I really felt overwhelmed.
Just before I leave, he hands me a gift certificate for the store. I didn't know what to say. I kind of didn't want to take it because I already felt like I was offered so much but he said it was okay. He was just so appreciative that I spent my time in costume at the store just to help out in any way possible.
So yeah, now I'm home, tired and gross from being in costume. But I'm also just overwhelmed too. Both with the reactions I got in costume but also the kind generosity of Joe. I swear that his store is one of the best. Megan and I go basically every week. We are always treated so well and I want to keep supporting them as much as possible.
So if you're ever in Central Pennsylvania, I strongly recommend you head to Comix Connection, 6200 Carlisle Pike, Suite C, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050. They have a fantastic staff and they have an excellent store. I can not recommend it enough.
They're posting photos on their Facebook page and I included a photo of my insane haul. I think I'm going to go collapse now.
