Scientist: WHAT HAVE I LEARNED FROM CORONAVIRUS?
I have learned that people no longer have an approximate awareness of how dangerous a flu is, wrote Croatian scientist Igor Rudan in a column titled „What have I learned from Coronavirus“.
The flu must have been largely responsible for the dreadful extermination among Native Americans, Aztecs, Mayans, Incas and Australian Aborigines when they came in contact with the first European colonizers.
– The 1889-1890 “Russian flu” (H3N8 / H2N2 antigens) killed one million people at a time when the world’s total population was only about one and a half billion people.
– The Spanish Flu 1918 – 1920 (H1N1 antigens) killed probably up to 75 million people by the time 1.8 billion lived on Earth, and had a significantly higher rate of dying in the community than this coronavirus.
– The Asian flu of 1957-1958 (H2N2 antigens) killed perhaps more than 3 million people at a time when there were 2.9 billion on Earth.
– The Hong Kong flu of 1968-1969 (H3N2 antigens) also killed perhaps more than 3 million people at a time when there were 3.5 billion people in total.
– Today, even with the vaccination of the most vulnerable, common flu kills 250,000 to 650,000 people a year. It kills less directly (respiratory symptoms) and more indirectly (exacerbating existing diseases in the elderly).
In Italy, according to properly conducted research and calculations that took into account both direct and indirect deaths, influenza has killed 7,000 to 24,000 people annually in the past decade. In the US, the flu takes between 20,000 and 50,000 victims each year. In both cases, these figures are valid even with the vaccination of the vulnerable population. If people were not vaccinated, these numbers would be significantly larger.
I HAVE LEARNED THAT PEOPLE QUICKLY LOSE THEIR FEAR OF EVERYTHING THEY KNOW WELL, EVEN WHEN THEY SHOULDN’T, BUT THEY HAVE AN OVERWHELMING FEAR OF EVERYTHING COMPLETELY UNKNOWN

Why You Shouldn’t Panic About the New Coronavirus
The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China has risen to 908, with over 40,000 confirmed infections as of Sunday. The outbreak is serious, but the odds are that the everyday flu is a much more serious risk to your health.
At this point, the seasonal flu carries much greater odds of killing you than the novel coronavirus recently identified in Wuhan, China.
The common flu causes up to 5…
