Reposted from @benjaminmycars - The date was June 1990. The occasion? Graduation from nursing school. I was 25 years old, in the Air Force reserve and a single mom of a 4 year old. Who knew that almost 29 years later I would be at UCF getting my BS in Human Communications. Why would I do this? The healthcare system is broke. Humans in general have a mutation attached to their hands....it's called the cell phone. The medical field has become impacted by the advancement of A.I. and we need to bring humanity back to the core of our being... communication. That's why I'm here....I've worked ICU, open heart, cath lab, ER, flew flight for 10 years, travel nursing for 10 years, worked in approximately 30 different hospitals and in the field in the military. They all are the same because we deal with the human soul. Connecting with others both on your medical team and your patient is an art. The canvas has been ripped to shreds and needs repair. If we in the medical field do not do something soon, this art on the canvas will be destroyed. What's my goal in all of this? Manage an ICU and bring back old school. I want to empower the bedside nurse again.....trusted again. The opportunity to care for the human body, mind, soul and spirit is a gift given to a select few. These few are precious and to be protected. When we as managers embrace this vision and realize how precious each member of this team is, miracles happen, lives are saved, staff go home wanting to come back the next day yearning for a taste of that miracle again. That's why I'm back at college. That's why I am a human communications major. I want to empower this awesome group of God given talented human beings to be who they were called to be.....angels in scrubs❤. #registerednurse #rn #nursemanager #communicationmajor #communication #teammedical #ucfknights #ucf #icurn #icunursemanager #thepatient #caregiver #ucfcommunications #thesoul #spirit #teachthemwell - #regrann #dreams #change #snhu #wearethechange #inspiration #besties #support #sister #girlpower #weruletheworld #0 https://www.instagram.com/p/BuiIjWOlQkW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=37bnh8xvrghr
Did you know that a life that includes POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS created thru communication leads to better health. As little as 10 minutes per day of socializing improves memory and boosts intellectual function. Conversations with others reduces feelings of loneliness and it’s accompanying maladies. Stress hormones decline the more often people hear expressions of affection from loved ones. Research like this demonstrates the importance of having satisfying personal relationships. Not everyone needs the same amount of contact, and the quality of communication is almost certainly as significant as the quantity. The point is that personal communication is ESSENTIAL for our well-being. #student #interpersonalcommunication #communicationmajor
