(Processing Device Kya Hai)

If you own a Windows 10 PC, you must have noticed that it comes with some pre-installed folders. Some of you might have questions regarding these folders and what they do. While some might not have…
Windows Operating System consists of some Public Folders that allows you to share files and folders using the same PC. Not only this, but it also enables you to share data with people using different systems but shared networks. Therefore, any folder can be shared automatically with others having access to your Public Folder. A Public Folder is present in the same Drive as your Windows, which is usually C:\Users\Public.

Metamorphosis
So for our next workshop was sound. We were given the title "Metamorphosis" which means, a change in appearance, character, condition or function. Peter Appleton, who ran the workshop as he specializes in sound, asked us to construct a sound piece that should be no longer than 3 minutes. We had to take into consideration, words, rhythm, repetition, volume, pitch, timbre and we had the choice to experiment with different recording devices.
The software we had to use was Audacity, which was a relief for me because I've used it many times in the past either at GCSE or A-Level. Audacity enables you to cut and paste sounds in a way that is similar to word processing and they can also be manipulated using a range of different effects on the software such as, "fade in/out".
Peter gave us a website which was, www.freesound.org, it required us to register with them, but it didn't take too long and the bonus was it opened up a whole world of sounds that people had recorded themselves using pretty hi-tech recording equipment.
He then introduced us to a sound artist called John Cage who created a piece called "4 Minutes and 33 Seconds of Silence". Basically, John Cage, stood in front of a live orchestra and audience and conducted a silent song for 4 minutes and 33 seconds. I found this really amusing, but I also realised that the "music" I was listening to was the noises the audience and the orchestra were making during this silence.
The next artist we were introduced to was called Max Eastley, he created a sound piece called "Kinetic Drawing", it involved moving objects attached to motors making peaceful sounds, it felt like I was sitting in a Zen Garden if i closed my eyes.
Max Eastley formed the basis of my sound, as mentioned in my previous blogs, a lot of my artwork centres around nature. I wanted to show how nature can be very peaceful and therapeutic, but can easily be disturbed by human life. I will post my sound in my next blog, hope you like it!
