how can i tell a girl i have a crush on her without seeming predatory?

note: I’m assuming you’re a woman because of your profile pic but please let me know if I’m wrong.

Honestly? The idea that women are predatory just for having crushes on other women is a very homophobic one and an awful stereotype that just isn’t true and unfairly targets sapphic women when most predators are men (but not all). But if you want advice that will hopefully help you avoid these nasty stereotypes, my main tip would be to be friendly and not too pushy (you know, you might have to take no for an answer) and being polite even if she’s not interested in you. Also, if you can, maybe try to check if she is into girls first, because then the whole “predatory lesbian asks out nice straight girl” thing is a complete non-issue. She’s not going to call you predatory if she also likes girls (and probably understands how you feel.

Anyways, that’s all the advice I have because I’m not really experienced in the relationship department, but if any of my followers want to chime in it would be appreciated :)

HEY SO i'm having a situation right now that's a pretty big deal. I started researching about ASD a long time ago and told my mom I thought I had that and asked her what she thought. She told me she thought so too, but I was to afraid to address that to my psychiatrist. But the problem is: now I have to do my application for college and I have to specify if I need accommodations but, of course I need a paper signed by my doctor or something like that. So I was too anxious and my mom went +

2/2 + talking to my doctor alone and I don't know if she mentioned ASD, but I have to go there to hand my doctor what the college needs on the paper, but I haven't been there since my mom told her I needed accommodations. Sorry this is too long, but it's a huge deal for me since I have to apply until may 15 or something, do you have any scripts to go there and ask her (my doctor) what she needs to know/that I need to "prove" I have ASD/that it's specified in the section of "disabled people"?

Okay, so i’m sorry i’ve been putting this one off so long, i’m just having trouble understanding it completely. I’ve asked for clarification but haven't received a response yet so i’m just going to do my best!

So what i’ve gathered is that you are currently self-diagnosed ASD but you now need a professional diagnosis to get accommodations in college. The script request is for a conversation w/ your doctor about how to obtain a professional diagnosis and recommendation of accommodations. Right? If not, message me, and i’ll try again. (Idk why i'm having such a hard time getting it, stupid brain!)

So, to get diagnosis going is pretty easy, all you need is a qualified medical professional. I would also suggest bringing your mother along as many of these kinds of doctors appreciate an outside perspective to the patent, especially a parent. You can always ask your mom to bring it up for you that way, but if not here's a script: 

Doctor: So, what can we do for you today?

You: I was hoping you would be able to help me figure out how to get officially diagnosed with ASD. Any alternative ways you could help me receive accommodation in college, would be great too. 

Doctor: Sure, we can look at that, maybe first tell me a little more about why you feel that diagnosis fits you and what kind of accommodations you were looking at receiving.

You: Well I *explain reasons for SD and acc.*

Okay, that sounds like something you really need, let’s start with the diagnosis process. 

That should get you started. They will probably give you quite a few questionnaires for both you and your parents to fill out. After that there is some more testing they do and it can take a while. Best of luck to you, I hope i got somewhere in the ballpark of you’re scripting needs! If you would like it done again don’t be afraid to ask!

oh, i didn't mean it to be offensive to other people, i hate that some girls think it is predatory! i just wanted to know how to avoid being called that by a straight girl (thank you for your answer and for your blog in general!)

oh no I wasn’t accusing you of anything, I’m sorry it came off that way. I just wasn’t sure if you thought that the stereotype applied to yourself and I just wanted to make sure you knew that it’s not YOUR fault if you’re stereotyped. I’m glad you already know though :)

i have a question about it, actually: how do you feel about non-jewish people learning/speaking yiddish? i read about a yiddish teacher and i've seen some people say that it's good because it's a dying language, but i've also seen people that are bothered by it

Disclaimer that we Jewish people have a saying that “two Jews, three opinions” so I fully expect all kinds of opinions on this, but personally I’d wonder what would draw a gentile to learn Yiddish in the first place. It’s so close to German (and occasionally Polish) in some ways so why not just learn that? But maybe I’m being too simplistic.

I’m not going to get mad at a gentile who learns it, but the “why” would really confuse me because it’s such a product of our historical experiences. It would feel like someone I met in graduate school having a small photo album of pictures of me as a child. (And yes, it needs new life, but we should be doing that bit….) @coneybitch

(To answer your other ask: I speak German very badly and I know how to read the Hebrew alphabet, so… sometimes I can understand very slow spoken Yiddish if it’s words I already have in my vocabulary and I MIGHT have a hope of reading something if I had hours to pore over it, but I don’t speak Yiddish fluently or anything.)

If you’re asking what the word means, it’s a Yiddish expression that you can replace with “Well?” in English. Or, “So? What? What is it?” That kind of thing.
