Can I have a script for making an appointment with a doctor? Idk what kinds of things I need to tell them on the phone when I make the appointment so it would be very helpful!!

Sure! I don’t know what kind of appointment you’re making, so I can’t tell you exactly what you will need. But I would suggest having your insurance info ready (carrier, insurance number ect) as well as your social security #. 

You: Hi! Is this Dr. **Smith’s** office? 

Them: Yes it is, how can I help you?

You: I was looking to schedule an appointment with Dr. **Smith**  to discuss **service you need**. 

Them: Alright, are you a new patient?

You: Yes I am. 

Them: Alright, can I have your name a date of birth?

You: **Luke Skywalker** and my DOB is **April 13, 1995**

Them: And who is your insurance provider? 

You: **MedicalMutual**

Them Great! That's all we need. Now it looks like Dr. **Smith’s** next appointment is in two weeks. Would Thursday at three work for you?

You: Yes it will, Thank you! Is there anything else you need or anything I should bring to the appointment?

Them: No, that's it. Have a nice day!

You: You too!

It's always good to ask if you need to bring anything else, they sometimes need your social security number or other insurance information. The secretary will prompt you for pretty much everything, so don’t worry about it too much. If they ask you for info you don’t have on hand just say “I’m sorry, could you give me a moment to find that for you?” and find what they need. They’ll be patient. Good luck!

Hi is this blog active? I am trying to figure out how to ask a doctor if they will take me back now that I have medi-cal instead of my old insurance that I had when he saw me before. I know some doctors will only take medi-cal patients if they've seen them before but it's not for sure. I need to call and ask but I don't know how to word it. Thank you.

You: Hi! Have I reached Dr. ****’s office? 

Them: Yes, you have. How can I help you?

You: I’m a previous patient with Dr. **** and would like to make another appointment with him, but my insurance has changed. I’d like to confirm that my new plan is accepted by this office.

Them: I can help you with that, what plan are you on currently?

You: I provider is Medi-cal.

Them: That’s one of our approved insurances. Would you like to schedule an appointment?

You: Yes, I would.*Make appointment*

Them: Great, you’re all set up! Is there anything else I can help you with? 

You: That's it. Thank you so much for the help!

No need to apologize, this is totally doable! Since I’m not entirely sure how your school works or who you would be setting up the initial appointment with,  for now let's assume that you’ll be going to their office and speaking with a secretary or assistant. 

To set up an appointment:

You: Hi! I’m looking to change one of my classes, do you know who I need to see about getting that done?

Them: Mr. Smith handles class changes. 

You: Great! Is he available now or should I make an appointment? 

Them: He’s busy right now, so it’s best to drop by later. 

You: Alright, is monday at three o’clock okay?

Them: Yes, I’ll put you on the schedule. 

You; That sounds great, thank you so much. Have a great day!

For the meeting: 

Them: Hello, how can I help you today?

You: Hi! I was wondering if you would be able to help me change one of my classes. 

Them: I sure can, which one are you looking to change?

You: I would like to *drop english and take another elective.* Is that possible?

Them: It certainly is, I’ll get that done right now. 

Them: Alright, all done! Anything else I can do for you?

You: Nope, thanks for all you help! Have a nice evening.

Hey mods! Thank you so much for doing this. Issue: I am an amritdhari Sikh who lives in the United States. I am required to carry a small sword or dagger like weapon called a kirpan. I must have it on me at all times, even in bed and the shower, and I am strictly forbidden from removing it from the sheath in public unless I have to defend someone. Do you have tips for explaining what it is and that I will not harm anyone to event organizers?

Hey anon! I have to admit I am not very versed in these matters and I don’t think the basic google searches i did are going to be of much use. Nevertheless, I’ll try to help. I’m very sorry If I am not understanding this or say something incorrect.  

Them: What is that you have with you?

I would also suggest checking in advance with event organisers. They are much more likely to be understanding if they have advance notice. It also will help in explaining if you can point to some official event document that says you are allowed to do this. Hopefully I did something at least a little helpful here, honestly the way you explained it to me was already great!

Do you have any scripts for apologising? I've tried to make ones in the past, but I use the wrong tone of voice, and my step-father accuses me of lying or having an attitude.

Hi! Here's a script for apologizing, 

You: Hey, I understand that I did *reiterate your action* wrong earlier. I would just like to let you know I’m really sorry about what I did.   

Them: It’s okay, I’ve done similar things before. Thank you for apologizing.

It’s important that you repeat back the circumstances surrounding the incident. Going in depth and really discussing the situation demonstrates that you are really genuine in your apology. It makes people feel like they're being listened to and that you are actually reflecting on your actions, and it does a lot more than a simple ‘hey, i’m sorry.’

Extra script under the cut. explaining lack of correct tone/expressions/behavior ect. 

  Also, I know you didn’t ask for this, but i’m going to put it here anyways. An alternative method for you could also be having a general conversation with your step-dad. Explain to him that you don’t mean to have an attitude and that you fully intend all your apologies to be genuine. You just have trouble with tone of voice, expressions, word choice, ect.This is often very helpful, the better he understands your communication style the better you'll get along. 

Here's a script if you do want to try this out, and for others who may need it,

You: Do you mind if we talk about something real quick?

Them: Sure, go ahead. 

You: Thanks! I just thought I would clarify some things. I think we’ve had some previous conflicts over my tone of voice and expressions. I wanted to tell you that I do have trouble with those things and can sometimes come off as *angry/lying* when I don’t mean to be. So please try and give me the benefit of the doubt, and please tell me calmly if you think i am not using the correct tone. I don’t mean too and I’d love to try and correct it. 

Them: That's completely understandable, thank you for telling me. I’ll keep that in mind in the future!

If you have problems with expression/tone/dynamics it's best to have this conversation with anyone you are interaction with long term. It makes relationships much smoother! Trust me I know! Hope this helped!

Could I have a script for telling my parents I struggle with mental illness and would like to get an appointment with a therapist?

Sure thing! 

You: Hey, Mom/Dad ect., I’ve been wanting to talk to you about some things I’ve been experiencing lately. I’ve recently felt depressed/paranoid/anxious etc. and I’m really starting to consider that this may be a larger issue. I would like to talk to someone about it, and was wondering if you would help me make an appointment with a therapist so I could start to move my mental health in a better direction. 

Them: I’m glad you brought this up with us. If you feel that a therapist would be helpful we can start looking into it right away. 

conversations like this are very difficult and often have to be repeated a few times before you see results. So if your parents are standoffish or disagree with what you feel you need, just keep having the conversation. All they need is time to adjust to the concept. 

Try speak positively about it, focus more on the getting better/healing than the illness. It makes the adjustment for them easier. and as always with these issues Stand Your Ground. You know yourself best, if you feel you need therapy that's what you need. Keep asserting this until they understand. hopefully this script can get the conversation going well, good luck!

If someone you have been avoiding shows up at your work and tries to reestablish a social relationship with you that you don't want, what is the appropriate thing to say?

This situation is a tricky one, you really have two options. A passive polite one and a heck off one. There is a time and place for both. It depends on how uncomfortable they’re making you feel and whether or not they get the hints. 

First off  I would try the non-direct approach, when they show up and try to talk to you make it clear you don’t want to talk. Be cold to them, don’t smile, give one word responses to everything they say, let them know you don’t care and aren’t listing with body language. 

Tell them you're busy and make it clear you are Not Interested. Hopefully they get the message and clear out of there without need for confrontation. If they're not getting the hints you may need to properly tell them to heck off. here's a script for that!

Them: Hey! I was wondering if you wanted to go out with some friends of mine later?

You: I’m not interested in going anywhere with you. I understand that you want to be friends with me but I don’t feel the same way and would appreciate it if you would stop bothering me at work, and elsewhere. It makes me very uncomfortable. 

The first part can be changed to anything really (I just made something up I don’t really know your exact scenario), just that last bit is important. Be firm in what you’re saying and make it clear exactly what you expect and want. You may need to tell them a couple times and if they come in again just repeat it. Maybe a bit angrier till they get it. Good luck with all of it!

Sure thing! Unfortunately I am not NEARLY fluent enough in asl to write out/record a script in it. I'm sorry, i’m working on learning i’m just very bad with languages. What i can do however is open this up for followers who are fluent to comment on. So if you’re fluent in asl plese reblog with any advice or script suggestions you have! 

I also searched the archives and found some potentially useful links here and here. As for a general intro script, here you go! idk if this is something that can be translated into asl but if it can any followers are welcome to take a crack at it!

You: Hi! My name is *name* and I’m going to be in your class this year. I’m really looking forward to learning with you. Do you mind if I ask your name?

Them: Hi, *name*! I’m glad you're ready to learn. My name is Mx. Smith, it's very nice to meet you!

You: It's great to meet you as well!

You can add on to the end of the script with anything you may need to brief them on (ie. pronouns, name, classroom accommodations) or continue a light conversation. If you need scripts for any of that just drop me an ask or search the archives. I hope school goes well!

i want to surprise an old friend and show up at their work. i really miss them and i haven't seen or talked to them in a while so i want to visit them. is there a script that i can use to talk to him about my visit or catching up when i show up? the only problem that i have is that i lost his number

It sounds like a great idea to go see them! Surprising an old friend is great, just keep in mind as they are working, they will not be able to talk to you for very long. Just keep your visit an appropriate length and you’ll be fine! All you really need to say is that you would like to get together sometime soon. 

You:  Hi *name*, it’s been a while! *hug/smile* I’ve really missed you and thought I would come visit you at work!

Them: I’m glad you did! I missed you too. 

You: So how has everything been going?

Them: Pretty well. *short conversation*

You: Well I know you're busy now so i’ll let you get back to it, but I was hoping we could meet up sometime to catch up?

Them: That sounds great!

You; Alright does *make plans* work for you?

Hello, so, I'm going to be taking my cat in for dental work soon, and I've emailed the vet a bunch of questions and I've found out that they don't do full radiographs at routine cleanings. I need to ask if they're able to do one if I wanted them to and what the cost would be but for some reason I can't seem to make the words go in a way I'm happy with? (Which is weird because this would be through email but oh well.) Thanks heaps in advance!!

Email can be tricky, it’s a lot easier to communicate face to face than it is with text, so no worries! I’ll draft up an easy email you can basically copy and paste with a few changes. Seeing as I don’t know what convos you've had with the vet prior I’ll just start from scratch. 

Hi Dr *name*, We’ve been communicating recently about my upcoming dental appointment for my cat *name*. I just noticed that full radiographs are not an included part of that appointment. I would still like to have radiographs done on *cat name* because I *reason*. What would that procedure cost? Thank you for your time. ~ *your name*

There's a basic one, you can reword it to fit what you need but that should get you through pretty well. Good luck with your cat!

Can you help me? I just need to know what to say in order to ask because it's been so long with no words from the application giver thanks.

Sure thing! Calling is always a good way to show that you really are serious about getting this position. I’m assuming you want to know if you're a candidate for the job? That's what i’m going to address. 

First off, lot’s of big corporations don’t even call back if they decide they aren’t going to hire you. It’s very rude, but it might be what's going on here. It’s still totally normal to call and check tho. So here's a script; 

You: Hello, My name is **** and I’m calling to follow up on an application I submitted. Have I reached the appropriate person?

Them: Yes, you have. 

You: Great! I was wondering if my application has been received, and if I am still being considered for the position.

Them: Yes, we did receive your application and we are reviewing it. We will call back with further details if we decide you are a candidate. 

You: Thank you for considering me.  I’m really looking forward to that call! Thanks so much for your time. 

Them: You’re welcome, have a nice day!

Try once and repeat as many times as necessary. Some places take weeks to decide and won’t call you back if they decide on someone else. Good luck on all this! I hope you get the job!

HEY SO i'm having a situation right now that's a pretty big deal. I started researching about ASD a long time ago and told my mom I thought I had that and asked her what she thought. She told me she thought so too, but I was to afraid to address that to my psychiatrist. But the problem is: now I have to do my application for college and I have to specify if I need accommodations but, of course I need a paper signed by my doctor or something like that. So I was too anxious and my mom went +

2/2 + talking to my doctor alone and I don't know if she mentioned ASD, but I have to go there to hand my doctor what the college needs on the paper, but I haven't been there since my mom told her I needed accommodations. Sorry this is too long, but it's a huge deal for me since I have to apply until may 15 or something, do you have any scripts to go there and ask her (my doctor) what she needs to know/that I need to "prove" I have ASD/that it's specified in the section of "disabled people"?

Okay, so i’m sorry i’ve been putting this one off so long, i’m just having trouble understanding it completely. I’ve asked for clarification but haven't received a response yet so i’m just going to do my best!

So what i’ve gathered is that you are currently self-diagnosed ASD but you now need a professional diagnosis to get accommodations in college. The script request is for a conversation w/ your doctor about how to obtain a professional diagnosis and recommendation of accommodations. Right? If not, message me, and i’ll try again. (Idk why i'm having such a hard time getting it, stupid brain!)

So, to get diagnosis going is pretty easy, all you need is a qualified medical professional. I would also suggest bringing your mother along as many of these kinds of doctors appreciate an outside perspective to the patent, especially a parent. You can always ask your mom to bring it up for you that way, but if not here's a script: 

Doctor: So, what can we do for you today?

You: I was hoping you would be able to help me figure out how to get officially diagnosed with ASD. Any alternative ways you could help me receive accommodation in college, would be great too. 

Doctor: Sure, we can look at that, maybe first tell me a little more about why you feel that diagnosis fits you and what kind of accommodations you were looking at receiving.

You: Well I *explain reasons for SD and acc.*

Okay, that sounds like something you really need, let’s start with the diagnosis process. 

That should get you started. They will probably give you quite a few questionnaires for both you and your parents to fill out. After that there is some more testing they do and it can take a while.
