my first conference acceptance!!!  i didn’t have the opportunity to present at any conferences when i was in my undergrad because i didn’t complete any original research so this is extra exciting for me (((-:  i’m definitely super anxious for that same reason, and i can’t really feasibly go if i don’t win any of the travel awards i applied for a couple weeks ago but i remain hopeful!!!  i blocked out the title because i’m paranoid but also because its pithy and i want to wait to post the full poster with title intact. 

a victory!!! in my grad school experience!!! its more likely than you think!!!

A Medievalist in an Early Modern World...

in other words, I went to an early modern studies conference last week! My early modernist colleague and I presented on the ethics of digital editing at the annual conference of the John Donne Society.

Conferencing out in the wild!

We made a poster (a first for both of us) and had out our laptops to demo a beta of our digital edition of the Dalhousie Manuscripts. It was exciting to finally get to show off the edition. It’s not done (not by a long shot), but it was great to share after spending almost two years working on it. We also got to meet the original print-edition editor of these manuscripts, Ernest W. Sullivan II. We were worried that he might be upset that we were redoing the work he did back in the 1980s, but he was actually excited about our project! Woo! 

So, listen. The John Donne scholars are incredibly kind and welcoming, even to a wayward medievalist. I also managed to get some feedback on the early modern aspects of my dissertation, which was great. :D All in all, the JDS was a great conference experience and I’m thankful we had the opportunity to share our work.
