Confession #140
"r/lowerdecks is a fun subreddit for the most part, but I'm pretty confused about all this talk about rabid marinler shippers on the subreddit. Because from I've seen, whenever a marinler shipper posts their fanart or promotes their zine, they're met with rude comments condescendingly telling them that they need to accept that mariner and Boimler will only be friends, totally missing the point that shipping is for fun not competing for canon. Hypocritically, the same "you need to accept them as just friends" argument is never for other main character ships like tendiford and boi'lyn. (I've also seen some ppl use the "just friends" argument against t'lyndi and mari'lyn which also rubs me the wrong way.) I feel like I'm being gaslit by the subreddit."
I feel guilty for even liking K-Pop. Not only do I get judged by both black and Korean people, but I also feel a lot of my black culture is being stolen and discredited. Not to mention the constant, blatant racism. *sigh*
#140: “Barbie & the Diamond Castle always makes me smile. Liana and Alexa have the greatest friendship.”

re: your last confession about fandom being toxic to marinler, I know I'm going off course and I know a lot of people will roll their eyes, but I just wanted to say that the same thing happens to spirk shippers. lots of people in the fandom treats us like we're fetishists unable to understand that two man (or two friends in general) can have a close bond without sexualising it, but I've never seen anybody use the same arguments for other example of close friends/strong relationships who are not canonically paired but popularly shipped (kirk and mccoy, spock and mccoy, chekov and sulu, data and geordi, bashir and o'brien -i'm not counting garashir because the only reason it's not canon is berman- kira and dax, janeway and seven, tom and harry, archer and t'pol, trip and malcolm, michael and tilly etc.) and every time I think, "what does it mean that shipping it is only a problem when it's this specific ship?"
Posting this as a response to confession #140
IDK why but I feel like Durple would have a British Accent.
