Intro to Revnenge!
the first conlang I ever made 🙂↕️
Key characteristics:
Every word begins with an R! They indicate the start of a new word, and therefore cannot go in the middle of a word.
- because of this, plenty of Revnenge writings don't have spaces between words. That's mostly for native-speakers, though--for folks like me, who speak languages like Common or Eviclon, it's easier to write with spaces. Seeing as most modern Revnenge speakers don't write very frequently (or have few writing conventions at all), most works transcribed into Revnenge are written by people who don't speak the language natively.
- Alsooo this characteristic alone is why Revnenge is nowhere near a natlang. But it's fun! That's generally how I treat conlanging--if it's fun, I'll do it! I'm not a linguist or etymologist(?), though I do a bit of research, just a woman with too many ideas swirling through her brain :)
Plenty of words are very similar to English--but most of the ones that are are related to scientific work. Words like "meter" and "dynamic" sound pretty similar to English!
All lowercase, beside names and other proper nouns (which are all-caps).
Alphabet:
- most of these are pronounced the English way
- However! there are some different pronunciations.
• A = "ah"
• C = "ss"
• I = "ee"
• S = "th"
• U = "ooh"
• Y = "wi" (like French "oui")
- and there is no freaky dipthongization or surrounding-letter-sound-dependence like in English, where the letter "I" could mean anything from "igh" to "ee" to "ay". These letters are pronounced how they are perscribed here.
Verb endings! There isn't any conjugation (because I didn't hate myself when creating this conlang), but there are word endings that don't show up unless they're being used as a verb. One is "-n", another is "-iv", and another is "-ix".
I feel like this is a good intro to the lang, so I'm gonna leave it here for now. I'll probably be back with more, because conlanging, while treated not-so-seriously, is something I've dedicated many many hours to XD
I'll leave you with a common Revnenge farewell: rukalah; rdi rctaliv ri raxagiv racit-mda-di ri <3
