Hi!!! I'm Collie and I write fiction :) I've created and have been developing a fictional world for a few years now.
Recently, I wrote a fanfic within which was set in my fictional world and, upon realizing that I don't know how to put images into ao3 (I looked it up; still didn't understand it), decided to make a blog so I could share images of maps and the like. More than that, I realized; I could make a blog to dedicate entirely to sharing my world. Is it excessive for a fic in a small fandom of a rarepair (HBOWar)? Yes. Am I doing this anyway because I suspect I will enjoy it? Also yes.
Now, for productive organization, here, I will have a few tags for elements of this blog. This will likely be updated as time goes on.

and, just for all those reading my fic, here are things/drawings specifically helpful for reading that (also, in posts with these tags, there may be some things that are non-canonical to real L'vari, but I'll mention if so in those posts):
havent done much with the Hilalots, so this is pretty much an introductory post on them, lol. it's parts 1/? bc Hilalots magic is Big Weird
starting off relatively easy: the rot! (BTW CONTENT WARNING FOR LIKE. BODY HORROR? IDK I'M BASICALLY DESCRIBING ZOMBIES SO. YEAH.)
for context, around 8-years-old a Hilalots' body begins to slowly rot. their heart stops pumping, their blood stops movin' around (obv), and slowly their other organs join the heart in stopping prematurely. the rotting process is incredibly slow; getting to the end of what we would recognize as the "fresh" stage of rot (which takes about 3 days) is about 17 years for a Hilalots.
this aspect of their magic is about how they can keep functioning even long after their skin begins to peel off their ostensibly stiff muscles. the Hilalots slowly lose the need to do certain activities like eat or breathe but, as long as their bones aren't ash, their "soul" remains alive and therefore able to move whatever remains of their body.
for instance! Hilalots lose all functionality of their stomachs within the first 200 years, rendering the process of eating kaput. they can still feel the need to eat, and often do feel hungry until that part of their brain rots away, but eating food wouldn't result in active digestion. they don't eat, and therefore do not make ATP, and (if there wasn't magic propelling their living corpses around) they would be unable to move or think or anything (aka starve). since they have magic powering their bodies, they don't need to eat!
however, things are slightly different with limbs. when a Hilalots' knee rots to the point of the calf simply disconnecting from the thigh, there is no magic acting like the calf is still there. they simply have no calf on that leg. when a Hilalots' eyes go foggy (within the first 150 years; results in poor eyesight) or shrivel up (after around 500 yesrs; results in blindness), there is no magic acting like they can see. they are simply blind. the only thing the rot magic maintains is the ability to think and pilot around what remains of the body.
this magic keeps the body going until either the skeleton turns to dust or the body is burned. they cannot die of sickness, blood loss, poison, or any other bodily wounds. burning them alive is the only way to kill them prematurely, and even then if they're in the Bloat stage they probably can't even feel the fire until it reaches their bones... anyways! they're functionally immortal, lol
so they're kinda cool! I haven't drawn many Hilalots, unfortunately 😓 maybe I will! I doubt it, since I have yet to genuinely think about any Hilalots ocs 😬 anyway, I hope this was interesting!!! :D
I don't think I mentioned this but Transportau engage and support polygamy/polyamory. if anything, being monogamous is seen as the peculiar thing, especially if they're a woman. most family units have at least 2-4 women and like 4-6 men (more than one male partner so he helps take care of his own kid).
as with most ideas in Transportoan society, the hierarchy is based on children. the head of household, for instance, is chosen based on which mother has had kids for the longest. she's had the longest amount of time to get experienced in dealing with children, so she can usually be trusted to deal with other families/represent the family as a whole.
women take on mostly home-jobs!! very very respected--a woman working outside of the home is a confusing sight, because it either means there isn't a man available to do whatever job she's doing (meaning bad partner) or she never had a kid in the first place that would tie her to her home (and therefore she's not really a woman in the eyes of the Transportau).
men do the protector/provider thing, but that job is not really as respected as the womens' jobs! it's generally acknowledged that the reason men are respected as they are is because, if it wasn't a man doing that job, it'd be a woman--presumably alongside taking care of her children. men are preeetyy much only seen as work horses or--and excuse my language--sperm deliverers. replaceable. (yiiiikeeeesss.)
every Transportau is considered a child until they have a kid themself. most Transportau women have their first kid from mid to late teens (15-18yrs), while most Transportoan men have their first kid from early to mid teens (13-16yrs). only then are they considered adults and popularly allowed to leave the household to start their own or join another.
uhh I think that's the basics!! love the transportau. I hope this was interesting! :DDD
OC POSTINGGGGG!! WARNING HEREEEE!!! I mentioned smth abt comparing two drawings of an oc of mine and I wanna do that!! so here we are!!! I can't find the ACTUAL first drawing of Linsia, for some reason (I never throw away old notebooks, unfortunately), but I found one from 2024 that has p much the same stuff :)
old vers (2024) on left, new vers (2025-2026) on right!!
they're cut oddly on my phone so I'm praying that they look ok when I'll click on them in post XD
anyway rant abt their similarities/differences below the cut!!
to help with understanding this post: Linsia's culture has a different way of assigning pronouns than we do. however, she's gone by she/her for years around Elva, her friend, and therefore goes by those pronouns in relation to her. if Elva doesn't have anything to do with what it being described, it's usually a toss-up between using he/him or she/her.
so, both have the short hair and hats, and their eyes are black! also: dress! around this time I'd come up with the species as a general idea, and Linsia was and is still a Sekratua (though Sekratua were called "Sekratua gizika" back then).
but! the older version is skinny and has a simpler dress. at this point Linsia wasn't really developed at all; she was Elva (another oc's) side-kick and bestie as they travelled the world and met randos. she was just the Hat Girl. oh, she also has all those lines on her body--that was an old Sekratuan thing that I decided I didn't like.
the newer version is more detailed! it lends more information about his class in society and (if we had a more detailed look at his jewelry) his hobbies. he's also a bit more chubby (tho admittedly not by much XD), another characteristic indicative of his class. he's pretty much royalty--he can afford to have a lil extra fat and fancy jewelry :) she also has a cane bc she's disabled!! if we could see her feet and one of her knees we'd see more details that suggest disability.
the newer version of Linsy is much more befitting of a main character--which, in my latest plans for the writings with these characters, he is!! she's no longer just Elva's friend or the Hat Girl, but Elva's friend, Hat Girl, and POV character material.
so, pretty much: as time went on, my understanding grew of the character grew, and, alongside that understanding, Linsia's wardrobe grew as well!!
yeahhhh Linsy!!! best boy <3 anyway let's talk about--
Sekratuan Clothing
(at least for the Upper Saizena East Coast, specifically Aomune-Pone)
gotta admit! I cheated off of what I thought would look cool instead of what makes sense!! but also DOESN'T HE LOOK SO CUTE. IMAGINE ALL THE SEKRATUA LOOKIN LIKE THAT. ADORBS.
while I did just steal this out of history for no logical reason, I made sure it fit into the bigger context of the world. hiiiiistory time! wayyy back when, the Northern Hilalots came down and took over the entirety of Upper Saizena. their fashion looked a bit like Regency clothing (at least for the rich; the poorer folk got less intricate clothes)!! as they had control over the territory, and were already forcing the locals (including many species, but primarily Humans and Sekratua) to learn their language, they also forced their fashion sense on those locals. when those Hilalots retreated (once Acolb was beginning to form), the locals were left with Eviclon, a general hatred for republics, a socially ingrained and widely despised respect towards the Northern Hilalots and their way of living, and their fashion sense.
but the Humans and Sekratua were splitting off too. the Humans were creating problems (and Acolb), and the Sekratua were trying to figure out how they would like to govern themselves (and where they were to live). once the walls of Acolb were up, cultural exchange between the Humans and any other species, including their neighbors, was greatly reduced. their fashions evolved quite differently!!
the Sekratua, while cautious regarding anyone's rlaikanm, leaned into the frills and extravagancy! (generally. it depends on the community!! no one wears clothing that could potentially hurt someone else, and doing so would be paramount to social suicide.) so, while not exactly the same, modern Upper Saizena fashion is really similar to Victorian Era clothing (maybe less worried about propriety)!
since they don't have any notion of gender-based clothing, there is no difference between masculine and feminine outfits. generally, Sekratua that engage in physical labor wear pants (or shorter dresses) and shorter heels. anyone else can be as glittering and frilly as they could desire :D
speaking of heels... this is very much a custom built from their rlaikanms, but it is about clothing so I'll put it here.
heels are generally harder to walk in. just generally. people get used to walking in them, yeah, but that doesn't mean they take the same amount of effort to walk in compared to something like tennis shoes. (that's how I see it, anyway. I've seen some impressive videos of ladies running around in heels, but the effort that would take still remains, right? well, that's what I'm assuming, lmao)
because of the difficulty involved with walking on rough terrain in heels, plenty of Sekratua wore it as a precaution against mindlessly running after their rlaikanm! they'd probably hurt themselves somehow in doing so, uncoordinated in their automatic reaction to seeing their Thing and it not being theirs, and therefore draw enough attention to themself that they could be stopped.
I'll talk about more tradition related to the heels later, but basically: EVERYONE wears heels. the height of the heel changes depending on the job, but it's always at least an inch and always skinny/stiletto heels.
jewelry is also very very common throughout the East Coast!! (and throughout Lower Saizena!) even the poorest in a peak would have a few jewels for each family member. certain types of jewelry, or certain types of jewels, could be restricted due to someone's rlaikanm, but even so everyone has SOME type of jewelry. Linsia, pretty much being royalty (as the child of the ruler of the peak), has a lot of jewelry on-hand! (especially since he loves making his own jewelry :) ) (tbh he should probably have MORE jewelry than what I drew...)
uhmm yeah that should be the most of it! hope you found this interesting!! I, at the very least, am glad to be back (even if just for a moment).
it's pretty simple! every Iau Hegadan has one humanoid with whom they can sense the future. they do not see this humanoid's future until they meet and touch one another. they call those whose futures are seen "ryudlacabicm" (or, shorthand: "ryudlabic"). (there is the exception of those with Pyran ryudlabic, but that's basically a whole other species.)
some Iau Hegadan believe that ryudlabic can be predicted. the idea is that many Iau Hegadan display characteristics similar to those of the species of their ryudlabic. an Iau with a Sekratuan ryudlabic seems to have a freakish ability to tell when someone is lying; an Iau with a Transportoan ryudlabic seems to be in constant movement, never stopping for rest. (there is some credence to this belief, since souls are already connected before they touch, but not much.)
the futures they see are typically formatted in their minds with strings of poetry! they see flashes of their ryudlabic's future, but suddenly have words running through their minds that refuse to leave until they're spoken out loud. this poetry usually speaks more on the person's future character than their actions. for example: instead of saying "you donate to charity a lot and find your partner" the poetry says something like "your generosity will be amongst the most effectual of your positive traits". for a future-telling to mention specific events is indicative of a person that is probably going to be significant for society at large. (like, if King Filipe had his future told, it would probably include something about his death, bc it effected the entirety of Acolb significantly.)
because of that general rule of future-telling poems (that being that they tend to not prescribe specific events), the flashes that the Iau sees aren't always set in stone. those flashes are based on the choices the ryudlabic plans (subconsciously or not) to make.
anyway first post in a while XD not the biggest or best writing I've done, but it gets the job done ig... hope you found this interesting!
it's random but it's one of my favorite things I've made with them!! it has to do with language a little, too, so I'll talk the species' variation on Common first!
so: Common. they speak slightly altered Common, in that pronunciations change depending on whether the word is a name. (if you've seen my posts about Common pronunciation... ik. ik. I don't make the rules, it's just how the world works!! lol.) this variation is referred to as Sandy Common. speakers of Sandy Common and speakers of normal Common can understand each other almost perfectly--it's only difficult when it comes to reading names.
in Sandy Com, names are pronounced the Eviclon way (except for accented letters). however you (presumably an English speaker in some capacity) guess it's pronounced is probably right. Y is "yuh", S is "ss", etc etc.
onto the actual names! Transportau base their kids' names on the titles they give their floaters. they can definitely tell the difference between each floater, even if they all appear the same. I don't have a good analogy for this.. sorry gang, I usually do 😔
anyway! the naming for the floaters goes like this: they go through the alphabet. so one floater is named A, another B, another C, etc etc. but there are more floaters than 26, so they go through the alphabet again, usually starting with Aa, Ab, Ac (though that isn't required; sometimes the kids are asked what letter they want next). and when they get done with that section (going Ba, Bb, Bc... Ca, Cb, Cc.... Da, Db, Dc, etc etc), they start Aaa, Aab, Aac..., and when they're done with that (going Baa, Bab, Bac... Caa, Cab, Cac, etc etc) they start Aaa, Aba, Aca, etc etc. on and on and on until they get the whole collection! I'm not sure how I would calculate this, but most Transportau I've made have 4-letter names. I might want to do that math eventually; for now I'm going to stick to 1-4 letter names.
anyway! this comes up with names like Aaaa, yes, but also names like Nyat or Pbnì.
upon birth, the names themselves are mostly kept. Aaaa would still be Aaaa, but Pbnì would be changed to Pibnì. the pronunciation doesn't change, but spelling does. spelling meets Eviclon-like rules, not Common-like rules.
every Transportau has two first names, one from their father and one from their mother. for instance, Aaaa could come from their father, and Pibnì from their mother, ultimately making Pibnì-Aaaa. the mother's name always goes first. the parents usually use their name for the kid in their early years, but as years go by either use both or the mother's name.
they also have last names! these are not determined by floaters. instead, it's based on the head of household. which is... something I'll explain in another post about Transportau family units/family hierarchy, lol. so: head of household (and the sex of the transportau involved). it's the maternal name of the head of household + either -billu or -bille. for example! the head of household's maternal name is is Cìx. if our Pibnì-Aaaa is a son, their full name would be Pibnì-Aaaa Cìxbillu; if our Pibnì-Aaaa is a daughter, their full name would be Pibnì-Aaaa Cìxbille.
interesting stuff! ...at least to me. imo, Transportau have the most fun names. the Morphila have some interesting cultural ideas surrounding names, and the Sekratua have interesting naming conventions, but the Transportau are the most fun out of all of them. hope you found this as interesting as I do! <3
sooo we haven't talked Transportau, which is so sad bc they're so cool. they pretty much just look like humans, though ofc I'll do an appearance post eventually (can't rn cuz I'm on a trip atm.. big sigh..), except for their purple birthmarks--which are tied directly to floaters!
floaters are, in my opinion, the most interesting thing about Transportau. their understanding of floaters drove the development of Transportau culture as a whole. (and, without them, they'd pretty much just be Endermen from Minecraft, lol.) for this post, under the cut, I'll go over:
what floaters physically are
what floaters metaphysically represent/floaters' impact on Transportoan magic
how floaters impacted the development of Transportoan culture
+ randoms
first off: what are floaters literally?
for those who've played Minecraft, they're the little particles that appear around Endermen that teleport. little star-lookin thingies. they've got a consistent shape: 8cm in each dimension. they're 6-pointed purple stars. at the beginning of a transportau's life, they can have anywhere from 100-500 floaters.
some sparkle, some are dull, some have a metallic-like sheen. it isn't the same for all of them.
having 100-500 little stars surrounding one's body at all times is a bit excessive, though. so, they don't! all along Transportau bodies are birthmarks that look like splotches of spilled milk or splatters of paint. they, in fact, are called splotches. plenty of floaters can be stored within those splotches--the number of floaters within those splotches changes the color of the splotch. a splotch with no floaters in it (not common) is a dark brown, typically, but a splotch with many is the same vibrant color as the floaters themselves. plenty of floaters hang outside of the splotches (around 10-20 at a time), but besides the latter half of pregnancy and early infancy all of one's floaters never make an appearance.
thats all I can think of for that, so onto the next thing! metaphysically, what do these guys represent?
over the years, Transportau noticed a few patterns when it comes to the disappearance of floaters. despite there being, frequently, more than a hundred of them, a transportau almost always can feel when one of them is missing. it's akin to chipping a tooth; it simply feels like something is missing, and you poke and poke at the missing spot, too aware of the new shape. they disappear in two instances: 1) whenever they have a child and 2) whenever they teleport.
eventually, the Transportau decided that all of their floaters represent a potential child. they're the theoretical, physical manifestation of a child they could have. this idea became super popular in around 800, when many Transportau began settling in the desert, and is the idea still widely believed nowadays!
there's the tie between floaters, potential children, and teleportation--what are the consequences of that? that is a question that was, for the most part, settled in the 1200s, though there are still some discussions. Transportoan philosophy was at its peak in the era between the 900s and 1300s--which is something we can get into later. (omg there are so many things to "get into later", lmaoooo. idk how people do centuries worth of worldbuilding--I've only got 1600yrs and it's so so much.) point is: they ultimately decided that losing a potential child is the cost of teleportation.
culturally, this meant a few things! :)
1) family and teleportation are intertwined--thus, family must be amongst one of the most important things to Transportau. the matriarchal system was already quite set in stone by this point, mostly due to the language they adopted, Common, which uses the feminine gender as the norm; but the importance of family did concretely set females apart in their particular part in creating and sustaining a family.
2) don't teleport unless you already have a kid. this prevents people who could become forcibly sterilized by their liberal use of their abilities. teleportation has to be taught, so the general idea was simply to not teach those without children. (this had the added effect of making a distinguishing feature between adults and children: having a child yourself. even biological adults are considered children until they have some themselves!)
3) Transportau are taught to be conservative in their use of their magic until they have at least three kids. after that, it's culturally acceptable to teleport as much as you want!
+ randoms:
each floater has different energy levels! it's widely believed that the farther someone teleports, the more energetic floaters will disappear, and the shorter distances correlate to less energetic floaters.
attached to the above: there are only so many specific quanta of distances. like, a transportau could teleport 2km five times until they start appearing 20m off from where they typically do.
some floaters choose to rest on their transportau's skin! they don't weigh anything, though.
floaters don't go out beyond about a foot from their wingspan.
attached to the above: distancing between everyone is expectedd. except for lovers and small small children (like, 0-10yr olds), five-foot distance is usually acceptable.
that's all I can think of, for now! I hope this was interesting!!
history diverges significantly on this point depending on what story you're reading. I'll present the facts leading up to the attack the same, but tell you the AU version under the cut (alongside its consequences).
so! it starts with the West Sea Itsus hiring Morphilan soldiers to invade Acolb. the idea was this: plant bombs in some significang location within the kingdom, blow it up, and create enough chaos in Acolb to incite a panic and internal destruction of the country. the Itsus are staunchly religious (at least, their government is), so seeing the Humans go would be hugely celebrated, and Zlanzgard just likes the money, especially since they aren't being asked to intercede in some religious war (instead to start one, but that isn't a line they're not allowed to cross. not yet, anyway).
and so, in Sidulú of that year, soldiers sneak into the country. there are field spies, mostly, but plenty of ints as well. the ints are automatically sent to places of interest--capitals, castles, universities, etc etc. there, they learn about people that, upon dying, would set the country into a panic. that isn't only the king and his advisors, but celebrities and other local officials. the spies, at the beginning, simply do their best to blend in and find their tools for the next step.
in late Cthìa, that next step begins. the ints inform the spies of their targets. and here is where the guard begins catching on--finding the Morphila in the country and suspecting something wrong. prime case being this: Internal Defense Advisor to the King, Rudolf Murdock, attacked at a swordsmanship event in Slant. this attack wasn't the standard, of course--especially after most of that squad either died or was captured and presumably tortured.
Cthìa is also when they begin planting the bombs. mostly in places like downtown Ijcoc or around Maria (since no way they're sneaking in there, even disguised), but also in cities like Gateship or Zuntal.
the 1st of Súnique is when the operation is executed in full. by this point most of the morphila in Surias have been captured, half of them in Sele have been captured, and plenty of the bombs in other provinces cannot be set off because all the spies in the area were found and captured. however! the bombs in Sele and Surias are most certainly set off.
and here's where the story diverges. if you're here for the AU lore, go below the cut!! if you want to know what happened fr, keep reading here :)
we'll start in Maria. the closest the morphs were able to get is the pipe/sewage system that flows way way way below the city. those go off, and it destabilizes the center of the city into collapse. the External Defense Advisor (Adjara Crutchner), his secretaries, and a few others die because of this, and plenty others are injured. this is considered a success.
onto Ijecoc! morphila were actually able to get inside of the castle housing the King, named Filipe, and his family. the castle also frequently quartered other advisors to the king, like his Economic Advisor, City Design Advisor, and Advancement Advisor. and (despite Advisor Murdock's warnings) they were all at the capital on the day the capital got #exploded. the King, however, was not. instead, he was off in a meeting with Murdock, in Slant, where all of the morphila were captured and likely killed. none of the ints organizing the date of explosion knew of this meeting, with how secretive it was.
but still, the 1st was the date of explosion, and explode the castle did. most of the King's Advisors--dead. most of the castle staff--dead. plenty others in the city around warehouses--dead. King Filipe's family--dead. King Filipe--alive. buuuut not for long, lol. once he hears of his family's death, dude is devastated. he mighta been a dictator but he definitely loved his family! uhmm anyway so he kills himself.
leaving only one person available to take the crown: Internal Defense Advisor Rudolf Murdock. which... didn't spell out good things for the Itsus' intent with this operation.
after the attack on Acolb, and Murdock's ascension to the throne, plenty of things change. for one, all access points to the outside world are cut off. they were already very closed off, but after a year even the gate in Acum was closed up. the walls become higher, and guarded more viciously. for another, all things pertaining to the other species' were removed. books in Revnenge or Common or books about the other species' folklore, or the labs Filipe had to experiment with the transformation, or any speech about the outside world. all of it, gotten rid of. burned or killed or suppressed. basically, after Murdock came to power, EVERYTHING was locked down. not quite what the Itsus wanted.
so that's the attack on Acolb! probably the most important recent historical event on the Saizenas, lol
hope this was interesting!! :D
so, in AU world, everything in Surias remains the same, and most of what happens in Sele remains the same. the one difference: Filipe took his family with him to Slant. they don't die in the Ijecoc explosion, and the King doesn't commit suicide.
instead, the King is outraged by this attack, and declares war on the morphila for it--against Murdock's advice. Murdock recommends shutting the country down, getting everyone locked in and focusing on keeping their people safe, but Filipe's hella insulted by this attack and does not gaf what his advisor's saying.
this is what starts the great war! which DOES ultimately give the Itsus what they wanted... technically. it gets rid of Acolb, but doesn't get rid of Humans as a whole. I think I'll give a full timeline of the war in some other post, even though it isn't canon at all XD
they can teleport! it's an intent-based teleportation--as in, they don't need to be able to picture the place they want to do, only have an idea for where they want to go. this means they can intend to teleport next to someone (who they only know by name) and do so, or intend to teleport to their house and be able to do so, even if they don't know the details of the environment.
howwever! there are two things that somewhat hinder a transportau's ability to teleport.
1. floaters. floaters represent the total possible amount of children a transportau can have. any transportau can have up to 500 of them at the beginning of their life. the restriction is this: when a transportau teleports, one of those floaters disappears. the transportau care a lot about having/caring for children, so teleporting excessively is frowned upon culturally.
2. teleporting is something taught. only Transportau can learn how, so it's an inherent ability, but they cannot utilize it until they are taught. I think I can compare it to flying--technically, we humans can learn all the mechanics and whatnot required to fly; but without having the tools to fly ourselves its impossible. the other species can learn, technically, how to teleport, but they wouldn't actually be able to do it. similarly, Transportau themselves typically cannot teleport unless directly taught by a guardian. this also limits them amount of time a transportau can teleport in their life.
holidays!!! or religious days. specifically for Amusie/Aúzdì.
for a reminder, Amusie is the god in the Lannak religion responsible, in believers' eyes, for the Sekratua. they are associated with morality and justice and the truth! (also as a reminder: I use Amusie because I, obviously, don't believe in the religion. Aúzdì would be used for actual believers!)
while Lannak believers do praise Amusie throughout the year, there are two days a year in which the focus is solely on what they represent.
The Summer Solstice
the truth is often regarded as illuminating. on the longest day of the year, believers often pay homage to that idea by celebrating the truth! often celebrated by promising their words to Amusie rather than Ensinlai (the god of communication)--basically swearing to tell the truth and only the truth, lol.
2. The Winter Solstice
wouldn't Nemcufia, the god of disorder, be more fitting for the darkest day of the year? that would make sense, but instead, they gave it to Amusie. why? well, Amusie is associated with both the truth and Sekratua. Sekratua have powers related to secrets. isn't that simply the obfuscation of truth? on this day, believers typically reflect and give a secret of theirs to Amusie, so they can at least admit the truth to the god of it. it's usually a more solemn celebration than the Summer Solstice celebration, lol.
while this was a celebration begun by Lannacia/Lannak believers, it's celebrated even by non-believers! mostly by Sekratua, but nearly everyone acknowledges the day in some respect :)

Translation:
The topic of this post is conjugation in Common. Only in the simple present, because I don't want to describe the present perfect, lol.
there are four verb endings: er, re, ìr, and rì. er and ìr are conjugated the same, and this is true for re and rì.
in order to give you all a conjugation chart, you all have to know some pronouns :D Common has plenty of pronouns (10!), but six types of conjugation. these are all of them:
Dì (1st POV singular)
Ì (2nd POV informal singular)
Rì (2nd POV formal singular)
Re (3rd POV feminine singular)
Rú (3rd POV masculine singular)
Nicú (1st POV plural)
Tìúc (2nd POV informal plural)
Trìúc (2nd POV formal plural)
Lìcu (3rd POV feminine plural)
Lúcu (3rd POV masculine plural)
1st POV singular is one type. 2nd POV informal singular is one type. 3rd POVs singular and 2nd POV formal singular is another type. 1st POV plural is one. 2nd POV informal plural is one. 3rd POVs plural and 2nd POV formal plural is one too :)
SO! here are the conjugations: (not gonna put again; I think that section is clear enough, lol)
there are 10 months, each with 40 days. at the equator, the middle of those months, without much variation, is the full moon. each day is the same length as our days (though each day starts at equatorial sunrise, which only shifts 30 minutes throughout the year). there are 400 days in a year.
the months go by their Common names, even in Eviclon-speaking communities. Cúniz, Sidulú, Cthìa, Cúfúare, Súnique, Sex, Culebin, Calúìt, Cneif, Sidìln. (yes, Sex is the actual name of the month; it was entirely unintentional but is rather funny. the names are the Common numbers 1-10 with the sound /s/ at the front. so. sorta unavoidable if I wanted to keep them consistent. Eviclon-speakers get a laugh out of it, too!) in Revnenge-speaking places, the /s/ sound and C/S at the front is replaced by /r/ and the letter R.
the names of the week are Eviclon translations of an out-dated version of Common (C'm'n). this is in honor of the creator of this calendar, King Calith, who spoke C'm'n. I personally find the Revnenge and Common versions more fun, but, alas, we speak (something akin to) Eviclon. the days of the week are: Sedday, Sowday, Wateday, Groday, Blooday, Plantday, Pollinday, Pikday, Wilday, and Spreaday.
non-work days are typically Groday, Blooday, Plantday, and Wilday.
on the equator, the day starts at sunrise (the time of the sunrise doesn't change much, there; at most its a thirty-minute difference). however, most of the world uses this calendar--do the days for folks in the lower hemisphere start at different times throughout the year?? nope. around the time of this calendar's creation, mechanical technologies were being developed, so when the calendar expanded southwards, those in the south simply used their clocks to keep in-time with the equator.
we can get to day-by-day clock stuff later, bc that's a lot. I pretty much just wanted to share the names of the months :) hope this was interesting!! <3
lemme define (as much as I understand) what a nation-state is!! it's a government with an autonomous state made of folks with a common culture, history, or language.
some are closer to countries than others. for instance, Dole-Krinee, is commonly seen as a refugee state/a place to flee to. They're all bound together by that idea of a safe haven, but there's at least a neighborhood full of representatives of every language and culture on the Saizenas.
ngl i don't do much worldbuilding for ALL the nations, but I have come up with general cultural things. all below the cut!!
West Coast Upper Saizena:
includes Luscoe-Tune, Dair-Land, Kinete-Utedia, and Nisape
all speak Old Revnenge (same Revnenge the West Sea Itsus speak)
tend to be more conservative (aka do as much as possible to limit stimuli, which extends their lifetimes)
also usually very religious! Dair-Land in particular is very pious
Dole-Krinee:
ohhh so diverse! as I said, many of the citizens there are refugees. about 75% of their pop is Sekratuan (the rest being a mix of IH, Humans, Morphila, and Transportau)
because of that there isn't like. one set/common culture? it's a wild mish-mash of a bunch of them. ofc, some aspects of Sekratuan culture shines through all around (like using Revnenge titles instead of Common or Eviclon ones)
East Coast Upper Saizena:
includes Genboy, Megine-Olee, Aomune-Pone, Cefa, and Viatup
take Lannak naturalism without the religious aspects... mostly. Genboy and Megine-Olee are pretty strict about prayer (specifically to Lucile and Amusie)
most speak Eviclon. Genboy... does not. they speak some mash-up of Rev and Evi (it used to be Evi words with Rev spelling and structure, but over the past 200 yrs it's changed significantly; I call their language Boyan)
are looser in their sensory deprivation lifestyles! its appropriate to introduce children to all sorts of things, but it should be done so slowly and without many things at once (to be able to determine what exactly the rlaikanm is)
Mahn-Ikinoe:
trade partners, mainly, with the nearby Iau Hegadan
isolationist, besides the IH, and hold generational grudges against Morphila 😬
speak Modern Revnenge (same Rev most IH speak)
also very religious!
Apicoe:
culturally similar to the rest of Lower Saizena, but speaks Eviclon
dont really care about the rlaikanm thing past childhood. most children are kept pretty sensory deprived, aside from "essentials" (which everyone has different views on), but beyond that they do not gaf
technologically pretty elite! not as much as the Turakurtz, but even the Turakurtz don't have washing machines. so. ha.
all the academic parts that are required of the Field students are things all students should learn according to the Standard Education Association. Zlanzgard, alongside the Boulevardians, many Sekratuan nation-states in Lower Saizena, Dole-Krinee, and a few Sekratuan nation-states on the east coast of Upper Saizena, is a part of this association! as the name of the association implies, they come up with the academic/intellectual standard each kid should be at in each level of development.
(also, just for ease of understanding, Guardians are the adults responsible for raising the kids. there are Carehouse Guardians, whose jobs are to be parents and be the center of the kids' home life; and there are Academics Guardians, whose jobs are to teach. the majority of Morphila never meet their birth parents; their parents are their Guardians.)
Home school
for ages 1-4! it's toddler care, lol. they learn how to pay attention when someone is speaking/giving instructions, basic social etiquette, and start learning how to read and count. mostly a lot of playtime and learning appropriate speech, though.
2. Primary school
for ages 5-8! Basic schooling—learn your letters, numbers, colors, ect, when they’re younger, get into reading and basic (basic) mathematics. when they're older, get into complex readings, interpretation, and more complicated mathematics (fractions and long division and whatnot).
for Intelligence and Medical students, their academic coursework is more rigorous. it's basically like taking Advanced Placement or Honors classes.
3. Secondary school
for ages 9-12! In terms of generic learning, the kids would read more advanced books, dive into history, learn math things that would be useful for the future. they learn the most crucial academic things for everyday living.
once again, Intelligence and Medical students experience a more rigorous academic schedule than those in Field. they're also learning the crucial academic things for everyday living, but also the crucial academic things for their possible future job. think pre-calculus, anatomy and physiology courses, more conceptual science classes, deeper literary analysis, etc etc.
here is where they learn everything they need to know about living in society. there are more classes specifically on social etiquette/how to behave appropriately in the army. (reminder: army =/= military!) they learn how to apply for transfers on their own (without help from their Guardians), they learn Base manners, they learn about other cultures in-depth, many learn the basics of another language, they learn about how to apply for various extraneous contracts, etc etc. (what they DON'T learn is how to retire. or how to survive as a retiree. I'll get into the retirement culture in Zlanzgard eventually :D )
secondary school is also when PT is required and basic military customs (addressing superiors by “sir” or their rank, saluting superiors, etc) are introduced. there are new rules in chores and in cleanliness standards for bedrooms and whatnot, and Guardians are expected to be much more strict with the kids.
most kids also find extracurriculars during this time. it’s mostly like martial arts things or high-contact sports or music/dance clubs, but the nerds might pull together something like a chess club or book club. basically this period is “encourage the kids to get as busy as possible, and get used to it”.
4. Graduation school
for ages 13-16!
all of the academic things learned here are busy work. at this point, they should be able to do what they would need to get by in society--at least academically. they don’t really go beyond basic geometry and algebra in math, learn essential sciences (like baby physics, baby chem), learn literary literacy/media literacy, be able to make simple speeches or essays, and understand history (context, actions, consequences, etc etc). they repeat things they did the year before, they’re graded harshly, and they always have at least 3 assignments. just keep 'em busy af.
some do learn more complex things! even in the Field Branch. but that's mostly for those in Espionage. some teachers chose to teach their kids more theoretical math or literary analysis with less obvious practical application--but that's just another “what’s the point? follow my instructions, that’s the point” thing. grad school really is just to beat into these kids a deference for authority, get them to understand their rung on the latter.
once again, the Ints and Med students get no break. this is the calculus and statistics, advanced and practical science, labs and seminars and whatnot. basically college for these guys, for whatever their probably career will be.
they begin basic firearms training, learn more military history, customs, structure, and laws, and (for more future-officers-oriented schools) leadership skills. they’re driven through rough physical conditioning, through combat training, obstacle courses, and endurance tests. this is even for Ints and Med students, and students that plan to go on to work on-base. this training is for everyone.
Carehouse life is basically bootcamp. rooms are changed into barracks, inspections are done with a militaristic precision and specificness, the kids get “leaves” or “passes” that they lose if they mess up, the Guardians pretty much act like drill instructors, most of the time. some Guardians who stick through a group until they graduate, rather than sticking with one age group, are a bit kinder in this stage, but there is a certain expectation of Guardians to be firm.
all kids have to be enrolled in some extracurricular, too. if they can’t decide (which isn't something that happens frequently), martial arts is the go-to.
5. Bootcamp
idk if this technically counts as school, since they are officially in the army, but from 17-18yrs they aren't sent out into their actual jobs. for Field conscripts, it's usually some hands-on training/apprenticeship. for Ints, it's internships and apprenticeships. for Med students, there's something similar to residency/post-graduate training. Med students usually don't leave their "bootcamp" until the end of their first contract!
extra stuff under the cut :)
here, I'd like to point out that although the kids are automatically sent to one school or another in infancy, they always have the option to switch schools. there are tours of other schools, career fairs, shadowing opportunities--even as early as primary school. also, Guardians are constantly assessing their kids to move them to a place that would benefit/interest them more.
also, even once they've graduated (and finished their first work contract) they can go back to school, if they do the proper paperwork for it. if a Field enlistee decides they want to go into the Medical Branch, they can apply to transfer. these sorts of transfers are pretty much always accepted, since morphs are going to be the most productive and willing to do work that they want to do; keeping one in a job that they went through the effort of applying to get out of would be counter-productive.
however, if one decides to transfer to the Intelligence Branch or Medical Branch, it's required that they back to school for--at minimum--two years (could be longer; there are placement tests they have to take before officially transferring), and then do whatever bootcamp is typical for someone in that field. so it's a lot more work, in either case of transferring while still in school or after their conscription, but it is possible and encouraged! :)
overall, this is a education system that tries its best to prepare the kids for 1) functioning appropriately in society and 2) working well even under extreme stress. the requirements are pretty clear--as are the goals of the Guardians' actions. the kids can get annoyed or tired of it, and that is the point. idk. the kids would hate it, but I don't think many look back and believed they learned something for nothing (aHEM American high-school system...).
anyway, I think this is cool, and I hope you do too! see ya!
an approximate map of Acolb :) it's generally between the major mountain ranges on Upper Saizena; the northern bounds don't really have walls (the lines were drawn arbitrarily, since there aren't any Human settlements so far north anyway).
they're separated into provinces, not states. if you're confused by the difference, as I once was, let me elucidate (as much as I can, to my level of understanding, ofc): a state can be a sovereign territory that's subject to federal/international laws but can have it's own governmental autonomy, and a province is a subdivision of a larger territory, subject to the overreaching authority of some national government with limited legislative and executive autonomy. basically: the provinces don't have much power.
which gets a little into the political system of Acolb! Acolb's got a monarchy, and has since the country's creation. the citizens of Acolb have no say in the highest leaders of their country, but they do vote for their local police officials! (becoming a police officer--or as they call them, guard--is nigh impossible for those not born into households that have an officer in them. so. the pool is already very selective. but they do get to vote for something!)
very controlling, very authoritative. uhh, no bueno. but the Humans think this system keeps them safe--and they're really not that poor to consider protesting (they think, anyway)--so they don't object to it.
besides! that's not what I wanted to post this for. we're gonna go thru the basics of some of the key provinces!! I'll do it below the cut cuz there are twenty-one provinces total, lmao
we'll start on the left! that's Lita, Alisel, Echil, Pilyat, and Thacar. not a lot to say on them, honestly--they're mostly used for agricultural purposes, since a specific species of grains grow really well in the dry heat behind the mountains, especially down south. sometimes they experience some attacks from the Sekratua living the mountains right to their west, but those became less frequent after 1608! (that last part isn't true for anyone coming from my fic!)
Lita is barely populated. there are plenty of places for military training and incarcerated individuals, but not many normal settlements. very cold up there.
to the right of that, we've got the white collar line. that's Conwis, Vahrad, Sele, Buclom, Surias, and Lenlor.
Sele is where the royal family’s castle is! Also where the most colleges are. City where the castle is humongous and is called Ijecoc.
Surias is the defense/military stronghold; they’ve got their version of the Pentagon, there. Their Pentagon is the city Maria.
most of the higher education organizations are in this line.
like the Lita line, the northern part of this line isn't very populated. there are plenty of mansions in Conwis and Vahrad for the rich, though!
to the right of that, we've got the industrial line. Letal, Inomatin, Riag, and Movetur.
Letal's actually decently populated! ofc, pretty much all of the population is concentrated on the southern border, but it's there!
Inomatin has Samacu, the big lake in the middle of US!
to the right of that, we've got the livestock line. Negray, Vacena, Tusaria, Taman, Slant, and Acum.
these provinces have some of the highest populations! well, actually, that's a lie. Negray, Vacena, Tusaria--they've all got the same approximate populations of Alisel or Riag. but Slant and Acum have a combined population that's close to the entire white collar line.
somewhat relevantly to that last point: both Slant and Acum are fuckin' crazy! in different ways.
Slant--and specifically its capital, Zuntal--is basically gang central. I would equate it to some fictional city with terrible corruption, but I'm afraid I'm not in the right fandom for that. anyway! there is PLENTY of opportunity there for getting rich or popular (fun fact: the most advisors to the kings across the centuries have come from Slant), but the wealth gap for most is insane. pretty much unlivable, if not for all the illicit substances that their elected officials somehow don't manage to catch and put away.
and then there's Acum! Acum's fun, because it's the only city with direct sight out into a green world. which, okay, maybe explains an explanation. so, a quick interjection here--
Acolb's pretty much just concrete and steel. the ground wasn't really viable for planting anything, where Acolb was originally established, so they covered it up to make good, firm housing that would protect them from the long Upper Saizena winters. and as Acolb kept growing, the Humans joining in kept making the same architecture and whatnot, leaving more and more of the ground just covered in stone. by the time they realized they needed to feed themselves, all of the viable land was taken up by their settlements.
they resolved this by making greenhouses. tearing up the concrete--which does do a rather good job at insulating their homes, and their parents tell them concrete is much easier to traverse upon, etc etc--wasn't an option most wanted to take; buildings with the purposes they needed was much easier. greenhouses, the founder of Acolb mused, were also much easier to control. (he liked controlled things.)
so--what little non-concrete/stone ground they have is mostly dirt and weeds or small orchards and gardens that can handle such infertile land. northern Acolb--aka Lita, Alisel, Conwis, Letal, etc etc--is pretty much all of that kind of land, but because most of the land is marshy and freezing for 85% of the year, most don't live there. and because the majority of Humans don't really have the time or resources to travel, wide expanses of plain earth isn't something many experience. bringing us back to the task at hand...
--Acolb is cut through by the widest river on the continent, and the gates allowing the river to pass through the Wall (TM) are surrounded by Acum's biggest city (named, most intuitively, Gateship). the gates obviously can't be solid all of the time, to let the river pass through, so everyone can see the luscious greenery of the outside world. that's what makes Acum citizens a bit cray-cray :)
Taman adopts only a little bit of Slant and Acum's craziness. Taman's chill :]
anyway that was a general overview of Acolb! hope it was interesting :D
like. military structures. but these structures are the same for any job in Zlanzgard, not just for military jobs.
everyone is considered to be jn the "army". being in the army, here, only means being in the official work-force.
the branches are the same that I mentioned before: Field, Intelligence, and Medical.
the corps are the same that I mentioned before: Land, Aquatics, and Espionage.
Naming the rest:
Divisions are numbered 1-10
Regiments are described for purpose (Central Sanitary infantry, Mack infantry, West Sea infantry, etc) and given a number for their division (1-9)
Battalions are numbered 1-8
Companies are code-named and given short, memorable words (i.e. Easy or Dog for E Co. or D Co.) (Typically A, B, C, D, E, F, G)
Troops are given color codenames (i.e. Red, Yellow, Blue, White, Black)
Platoons are number 1-5
Squads are numbered 1-4
EXAMPLE of someone saying what they’re part of: “1st squad of Easy Blue's 2nd platoon, 2nd battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the Land corps.” (Squad, company + troop, platoon, battalion, division + regiment, corps.) (aHEM can you see what fandom I'm part of...)
the company + troop part can be shortened, too. sometimes instead of saying the whole thing, they'll say the first letters of their company and troop. you'll be understood, but usually it isn't needed; the company and troop namings are already short and easy to say.
unless it's specifically requested morphila remain in their teams (and, if there needs to be some shuffling, it typically only happens within a troop). it's very possible, and common, for inter-company or wider transfers to happen, but it requires a lot of paperwork. not paperwork that's difficult to get approved, but still a lot of it.
but yeah! teams are super close-knit, since transfers become more and more rare after bootcamp.
these are Zlanzgard's "states". yeah, there are over a hundred of them 😬 they were made, pretty much, by pre-existing territories that they took over when Zlanzgard was being established. (some of them, like Base 103, was created amidst some domestic conflict!)
Base 00 is also referred to as Headquarters. And the common short-hand for Bases is "B-#". For examble, Base 20 could also be called B-20.
Cities/towns have actual names. Plenty of them are like "Patton's Post" or "Roman's Stronghold", but there are just normal town names, too. For example, the structure of an address would be "Patton's Post, Base 22, Zlanzgard" (like NYC, New York, USA).
There can multiple islands to one Base. In which case there'd probably be an extra line in the address for the island's name. Example: "Patton's Post, Stratford Island, Base 25, Zlanzgard".
hope this was interesting!
(to those coming from my fic: I also hope this is helpful in determining the locations of the boys throughout the war!!)
