Life as MelitaME (The best insurance investment) 10.19.17
Just like homes need renter’s insurance when buying or renting property, and cars need auto insurance when buying or leasing a vehicle, and even families need life insurance if they want to continue to provide for their family once they leave earth. We need health insurance when we have a medical emergency, but there’s one more insurance that we fail to recognize when we’re stacking on one insurance after another; no I’m not talking about jewelry insurance or laptop insurance or whatever else they get us with. I’m talking about spiritual insurance.
It might sound kind of silly at first thought, but keep in mind that we all go through circumstances where money just can’t console the loss.
The other day, our home got vandalized and potentially broken into, and while I was on the phone with my bank looking at all of the things that I need to ensure for my child’s safety, they had a plethora of investments that they just needed to approach me with. “What about this one or that one? Insurance for your instruments or your shoes. You might lose your toothbrush, heaven forbid! You should go ahead and get insurance for that, too.” I was on the phone with them for nearly 2 hours just to add a few more dollars to our renter’s insurance.
What I’m getting at is this: we spend most of our time and money on investing in keeping our family, health and material matters safe and sound. But why do we so quickly overlook the protection of our spirit? We just assume that we will be “made happy” over and over again after a spiritual breakdown. But it doesn’t quite work like that.
Spirituality is a daily practice. We can’t just pray one night or meditate for an hour every once in a blue moon and then expect to be happy and shielded from any unpleasant experience. There is a Force that lifts us out of our blind suffering if we choose to see It and embrace It.
Just like if something happens to your house, the insurance company will pay for however much you told them your house is worth. You pay a certain amount a month that keeps your house covered just in case anything happens.
When something happens to your spirit, however, such as a loss of a loved one or broken heart, how do you recover from that? Money can’t bring your loved one back or piece your heart together again. What it can do is temporarily distract you with shiny objects and material gain. But ultimately, it will not heal your internal wounds.
So how do you ensure the quality of your spirit after such scenario? You invest in the Source; the Universal Intelligence that loved you enough to create you into this existence. To keep you breathing and waking up each morning.
How do you invest in that Source? With stillness and gratitude. Give 10 minutes of your abundant day to simply acknowledging the blessings that were created just for YOU.
Too often the habit has been made to believe that there’s not enough time to get still and say a couple thank you’s, but what gets my goat is that there’s is such an entitlement to each moment. Like we’re owed each breath or only pleasant moments. I’m guilty of this unconscious conditioning, too, as I just wrote a whole blog about trying to beat time at its own game. I don’t know where we got this spoiled entitlement from, but it is a poisonous prison to live in.
We have no problem paying thousands of dollars to companies that promise our material things back in case of a tragedy; frightening us into such paranoia that we can’t sleep at night because we might lose our home, car, diamond earrings or our precious toothbrush! Yet we continue to enter every day without one single thought to take a moment and give thanks for the Grace and Mercy of the Universe’s Love. But what if something happens where every THING is lost? All that hard work to pay for those THINGS… gone. You might be able to buy some of those THINGS back, but what will happen to your spirit? How will you rejuvenate that back into high gear?
So before you go to sleep tonight, or better yet, if you will take a moment right now to stop, listen to the stillness of silence. That is the powerful pull of Love keeping you alive. That pull will lead you into the next moment and the next. And you didn’t even have to pay a penny to give thanks for it.
