Here’s a new book you’ll want to get your hands on! Caroline Oakes has done a wonderful job connecting the dots between contemplative prayer and brain science. She also offers fascinating insights into Jesus’s own contemplative practice. If you are new to contemplative prayer this book would be a great introduction, and if you’ve been engaged with silent spirituality for a while, this would be a great “refresher course.” Highly recommended! #dailyspinasceremony 📅 🗓 Jan. 4 Intention: Spin about an hour before dinner to unwind from the day and relax. Pick something easy, with little thought required. . Fiber & Tools: I find 1.5 oz. left of the Finn Wool that I bought from @ironwheelfarms_4269 at #yarncon2018 I want to drop spindle, but end up on my King Bee. . Witness: I feel like I just doing a little spindling, but can't find the bottom whorl spindle I want. I don't like the feel on this top whorl. I then find a partial bobbin with some of this Finn already on it. It makes sense to fill it up and use up this roving. I think it would be nice to use some natural dyes on this eventually. I get about halfway through and the pups come in muddy due to our little thaw today. Bathtime for Bonzos! I don't think I'll have time to finish before dinner. Ring, ring...husband on phone, running late! I speed up my pedals. Maybe not totally the relaxation I was looking for, but the bobbin is filled and the roving is gone. And I even had time to whip up some Oysters Rockefeller! No pics of that though, we ate it too fast. . Spin Wisdom: This Finn Wool had just a slight bit of lanolin in it to soften my winter hands. Perfect protection when bathing the dogs! #dailyspinasceremony 📅 🗓 Jan. 3 Intention: Given the Stagnation I felt in yesterday's spin, today I Ply a Prayer to Promote Positive Flow. Fiber: Thick n Thin Single from yesterday's spin plied with a fine single of the same alpaca fiber from several months ago. Adding in Wensleydale Wool locks (from @Wisconsinsheepandwoolfest2018 ) hand-dyed by me in a bright red. (Brighten up yesterday's clotted blood color!) Witness: I use the thick n thin single from yesterday to coil around the fine single. I capture fluffs of bright red locks in the plying. It breathes. Feels lighter. I pray for the 800,000 government workers and their families affected by the shutdown, unsure of their next paycheck. I reflect that blood clots cause strokes and heart attacks. I add more wool locks, like stents in an artery. They float, they flow. I pray our government-clot soon clears and again begins to flow in a healthy and robust manner. I observe Sen. Nancy Pelosi as she accepts the Speaker of the House position wearing a bright red dress and pumps. I spin about 60 yards of a textured red art yarn. I wind it on to my "butterfly" noddy, ready to fly. I let it soak in warm water. I give it a few good whacks and hang it up slightly weighted to dry with one last prayer: Let it Flow. May it be So. Spin Wisdom: Government Clot could cause National Stroke or 💔. Praying for a healthy government in 2019.
