POOR ME: Control Drama

The Poor Me control drama is a passive and often cyclical victim strategy using  manipulation through guilt. Particular dialogue, whether valid or false is used to cipher feelings of pity and sympathy towards the individual. They often blame others, misconstruing their words, actions and intentions in order to make one feel they are responsible for their unattainable well-being. Due to the unconscious nature of this control drama most likely originating from childhood trauma, it is usually played out in a vicious cycle as the person repetitively attracts abusers and events that they so much fear.  The Poor Me individual must work on becoming more assertive and disciplined in their pursuits for happiness in life.

Control Dramas !

I am re-reading James Redfield’s “Celestine Prophecy” just to see if I find newer insights. I have read four books of his – The Celestine Prophecy, The Tenth Insight, The Secret of Shambala and The Twelfth Insight. I like the entire series. I find a lot of ideas that are very practical and applicable to everyday life. One such concept is the “control dramas” mentioned in the Celestine Prophecy.

Aloof people are caught up in their own internal world of unresolved struggles, fears and self doubt. Often lonely, they keep their distance for fear of others imposing their will or questioning their decisions (as their Interrogator parents did). Thinking they have to do everything on their own, seldom do they ask for help. They often need a lot of space and avoid being pinned down by commitments. Behavior ranges from disinterested, unavailable, rejecting to contrary and sneaky.

Interrogators are less physically threatening, but break down spirit and will by mentally questioning all activities and motivations. Hostile critics, they look for ways to make others wrong. The more they dwell on your faults and mistakes, the more you will watch them and react to their every move. Hyper-vigilant, their behavior may range from being cynical, skeptical, sarcastic and self righteous to viciously manipulative.

Aloof Sets In.

  Any form of negativity makes me want to withdraw and if I don't catch it in time, I will. Aloofness sets in and so suddenly, that I end up closing myself off from everyone, guarding myself completely. Tonight, I was playing poker and the moment a particular person walked in the room, the energy around me dropped. I should have become more aware and taken steps to avoid allowing this person's negativity affect me in such a way, but instead, I let good ol' aloof me take control and give her all power. I gave her my energy and power all because I was trying to avoid a situation and expressing myself.

It's amazing how quick negativity can turn me stone cold if I ALLOW it to.

I have a lot more barriers to break...
