12. Control the World
The villain sat at the bar, clad in black, martini in hand, and a pensive expression on their face. The bar was in the lobby of the most exclusive hotel in the city, their black clothes were designer and hand tailored, and the gin in their drink was the nicest money could buy.
Still, the villain couldn't help but feel underwhelmed. 10 years of their life dedicated to being the scourge of the city, and what did they have to show for it? They had money, certainly, and power, but there was something missing. The villain drummed their fingers against the polished marble of the bar. Were villains, true villains, even a thing anymore? There had been a time when villains were a warning given by parents to misbehaving children. There were curfews in place, to keep the residents of the city “safe” from them. They ran the city with fear. But those days were no more. The villain was one of very few left; most of their companions had gotten “real” jobs, or started families, or simply been arrested.
The thought of families, 9 to 5 desk jobs made the villain scoff quietly. Those were fool’s errands, ways to become a scapegoat for society.
By their third martini, the villain was just tipsy enough to start brainstorming some truly spectacular ideas. When they had been younger, simple chaos had brought the villain the most joy. (And truthfully, they didn’t have the patience or mental capacity for much else.) But now, with years of experience under their belt, they felt that they could pull off something much, much greater. And there weren’t too many villainous pursuits to choose from.
There were certainly plenty of crimes, things to do that were morally “wrong” (in a manner of speaking), but so very few things that were truly despicable, worthy of comic book villains with their outrageous costumes and even more outrageous “superpowers”. But while comic book villains were truly outlandish and ridiculous, there was something to be said for their number one means of achieving true villainy, as it were: taking over the world.
The villain at first tried to push away the idea, attributing the nonsense to the alcohol and their own constant need for attention. But the idea nagged at them, far too persistent, and by their fifth martini, the villain felt truly confident in their ability to pull it off. Taking over the world. The villain giggled in a truly un-villainous fashion at the idea. Nobody had ever achieved it, of course. And while the villain had definitely not been particularly ambitious in their youth, they certainly were now.
The next morning, the villain awoke with a frat-bro caliber hangover, a pocket full of cocktail olives, and a plan to take over the world. Was it perfect? Probably not. But the villain was open to improving it, certainly. They had never been one to shy away from advice that encouraged their dastardly endeavors. They discarded their cocktail-olive filled coat with a sigh. There was work to be done.
WEF calls for a global ban on homegrown food to achieve "net zero" The World Economic Forum (WEF) is calling on governments around the world to ban home-grown food production, ostensibly to reduce CO₂ emissions. According to the WEF, homegrown food contributes to climate change, which is why the ban is intended to help achieve "net zero" goals by 2030. WEF-funded scientists at the University of Michigan published this study in the journal Nature Cities. The recent WEF study claims that the "carbon footprint" of urban gardens and home-grown vegetables puts a greater strain on the planet than industrial agriculture. Researchers at the University of Michigan published these findings in the journal Nature Cities and found that a portion of food from urban gardens produces up to five times more CO₂ than that from conventional agriculture. Raised beds, garden sheds, and pathways are particularly criticized because they require carbon-intensive infrastructure. Poorly managed compost and synthetic materials are also said to exacerbate "global warming." According to the study, fruit is 8.6 times more climate-friendly and vegetables 5.8 times more climate-friendly when grown on a large scale. Urban gardeners who keep plants in offices and homes to relieve stress or purify the air are also under suspicion, according to the WEF. The forum warns of CO₂ emissions from the transport of plants, plastic pots, and synthetic fertilizers made from petroleum. Peat harvesting for soil improvement also destroys slow-growing habitats. While critics argue that these demands limit people's self-sufficiency, the WEF remains committed to its "net zero" plans. In the US, 14 major cities have committed to banning meat, dairy products, and private vehicles by 2030. The goal of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group is to oblige citizens to adhere to the following restrictions: No meat consumption No dairy consumption A maximum of three new items of clothing per person per year No private vehicle Only one short-haul flight every three years per person At the same time, the WEF is also pushing forward its agenda for permanent mass vaccination. At the Davos summit in January, members discussed biannual mRNA vaccinations as part of precision medicine. Plans call for "long-acting injectables" and "climate-sensitive" vaccines to combat multiple diseases. The WEF's growing influence on governments is becoming increasingly apparent. Critics warn that these measures are less about climate protection than about controlling the population.
