NEW MAP: Australasia 1846: Colony of North Australia (17 Feb 1846) https://buff.ly/2An0Or3 The 1830s and 1840s saw the phasing out of convict transportation to New South Wales and Van Diemen’s Land. However, this did not end British demands to export their prisoners and in 1846 they authorized the establishment of North Australia as a penal colony.
