not sure what got me thinking about this, but hear me out for a second. instead of jughead being betty’s high school relationship that doesn’t last into adulthood, it’s toni. i felt like half of you roll your eyes but HEAR ME OUT i’ll set the scene. betty was just rejected by archie, she and cheryl have their beef going on because of jason and polly, the body image issues that naturally come with pursuing the same hobby she was told she was “too fat” for are running rampant, her mother is trying to control every aspect of her life in order to maintain a dollhouse facade that keeps her (alice) from being remembered as who she was in high school, so betty’s overall just kinda struggling with herself. in comes toni, a photographer from a family entirely opposite to betty’s, representing everything alice has spent all of her children’s youths trying to brush under the rug. betty can’t help but be intrigued by her, but hasn’t figured herself out enough to know whether or not her feelings extend into romantic territory. she and toni get close, betty becomes something of a muse to her because shes beautiful. they kiss one night during some sort of experimental shoot, and suddenly, betty is dating the perfect opposite of everything imagined for her by her mother, and yet she’s being made to feel better about herself than she ever has in her life. so basically, girl who’s being told that who she is both inside and out is not enough meets girl who thinks every aspect of her is the epitome of perfection. and then the only reason that they end up breaking up is because they want different things post-high school and the relationship really isn’t sustainable even if it was wonderful. betty’s relationship with archie turns romantic some years later, and toni finds cheryl. jughead is off somewhere being aroace and in this universe is portrayed by anyone but c*le. the world is healed. coopaz world domination.
