Canon Powershot SX730 HS Taken on 07/04/2019. * Repost * Standing on a spur overlooking the River Brembo in a beautiful valley – Val Brembana – is a medieval hamlet called Cornello dei Tasso. It truly is a little gem that goes perfectly with a pleasant stroll. And you don't even have to worry about cars driving past as this village is only accessible on foot via an ancient pathway called 'Via Mercatorum' that can be reached from the main road below. My favourite moment was walking through this porticoed street; it's a wonderful piece of work made of stone and covered with a wooden ceiling. It's funny to think that is the commercial centre of the village! It perhaps doesn't come as a surprise to you that Cornello dei Tasso is "one of the most beautiful villages in Italy". But you might be surprised to know this is where the first postage stamp was issued in the world! If you don't believe me, you can see for yourself in the village museum 'Il Museo dei Tasso e della Storia Postale' ('The Museum of the Tasso family and Postal History'), housed in two historic buildings in the medieval hamlet. The Tasso family was a Lombard family born in the 13th century who initiated the first modern postal service and thereby played a crucial role in the communication field all over Europe. They were also in charge of transporting tax revenues with carriages that passengers used to travel, which eventually led to the creation of the service 'tassì' that we now call 'taxi'. That's another invention to thank Italy for! To learn more about this, take a bus from Bergamo with 'SAB' (also known as 'bergamotrasporti') heading to Brembana. Stop at Camerata Cornello and walk up the ancient path to Cornello dei Tasso. ______________________________________ #ig_bergamo #cornellodeitasso #borghipiubelliditalia #alluring_villages #kings_villages #italianvillages #borghiditalia #borghiitaliani #italia #italy #ilikeitaly #in_lombardia #italycomestoyou #yallerslombardia #igerslombardia #igersitalia #yallersitalia #thehub_italia #forbestravelguide #travelzoo #natgeotravel #lonelyplanet #bellaitalia #passionpassport #tv_living #throwbackthursday #italymagazine (at Cornello dei Tasso) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAuNHCkIWG1/?igshid=1ha8fb06frvfd
