y/n had always felt like she’d hit the jackpot in life. a career she loved, dreams she got to live out every day, and a world that, more often than not, felt like hers for the taking. she was grateful—truly. but even in the glow of success, there was a quiet space left unfilled. a missing piece she rarely admitted to anyone, not even herself.
love.
she wasn’t desperate for it. she was young and independent. but sometimes, in the quiet between shows or in the hush of early mornings, she wondered what it would feel like to have someone who truly got her. who saw past the spotlight and into the parts she kept hidden.
that all changes when she meets drew. introduced to each other by a mutual friend and from the first exchange, something shifted. it wasn’t instant fireworks or some dramatic movie moment—it was quieter, more certain. like something important had clicked into place. they were drawn to each other, effortlessly. And before long, smitten didn’t even begin to cover it.
but y/n knew how it worked. falling for someone in the public eye never came without consequences. the world had turned on her once before, and she wasn’t sure she had it in her to survive that kind of storm again.
not when this time, the feelings were real.

Y/N HAD NEVER FELT such relief as she did being backin California. Tour had been incredible—electric crowds, sleepless cities—but nothing compared to the comfort of home. For a brief moment, it felt like she could breathe again.
That peace, though, didn’t last long.
Madelyn showed up at her apartment almost the moment she dropped her bags, and Y/N couldn’t stop smiling. It was like no time had passed. But beneath the joy, the weight of what lay ahead began to creep in.
Seeing Drew again.
Playing a sold-out show at the Greek Theatre in less than 48 hours.
The excitement that had carried her through the tour now twisted in her stomach. She suddenly wasn't sure if she was ready.
It was probably her biggest show yet, first of all. That was enough to make her feel sick. And she could tell Drew was trying to get a little more serious with her, trying to peel away her layers and Y/N couldn't say she was enjoying it. She didn't want things to get serious with Drew, she just wanted casual. But she had already invited Drew to her show and agreed to see him the day before.
Maybe, she thought, it would feel better in person. Maybe seeing him would settle the unease.
For a while, it did.
Lying beside him in bed, her head on his chest, his fingers tracing slow lines along her back—it was quiet, safe. She could’ve stayed like that for hours, letting the moment blur everything else out.
But then Drew spoke.
And just like that, he ruined it.
He started rambling—something about how much he’d missed her while she was on tour. How he hadn’t expected to, not like this. And Y/N froze.
Was she supposed to say it back? Admit she’d missed him just as much?
Maybe she had. A little. But that wasn’t the point. She didn’t need to say it out loud. She didn’t want to. Because once words like that were spoken, they couldn’t be taken back. And she wasn't sure she wanted to give Drew that kind of weight in her life.
So instead, she stayed quiet. Let his words hang in the space between them, heavier by the second.
Luckily, Drew took her silence as a sign to shut up and he did. Making Y/N feel a lot better. It was not the time to start getting serious with a man she hardly knew, and was using to make herself feel good. She thought they were on the same page.
Y/N could've stayed next to him for the rest of the day, but she didn't out of fear of things getting awkward. And Drew knew then he'd fucked up, opening his mouth and being honest with her. But at least he knew not to do it again, at least not for a little while.
When Y/N got up from the bed and slipped her clothes back on, Drew knew it was time for him to leave. At least he would see her again the next day at her show. So Drew left Y/N's apartment, not before placing a soft kiss on her lips, and left her alone with her thoughts. Her brain going at a hundred miles per hour trying to figure out how she felt about the man that had just left.
And they were still circling her brain the next day when she had her next show. Y/N was at the Greek Theatre, an hour away from going on stage. All of her friends and her band were backstage with her but she couldn't seem to enjoy it as much as she should have been. Not when they were still waiting for Madelyn and Drew to show up. Thankfully, only Whitney and Paloma knew her relationship with Drew, everyone else just thinking he was now a friend of Y/N's, through Madelyn.
"Hey."
Whitney had found Y/N sitting alone in her dressing room, touching up the makeup she'd applied barely an hour ago. She slid herself up onto the dressing table directly in front of the mirror.
"What's going on?" Whitney asked gently.
"Nothing." Y/N tried to act confused, as if she had no idea what Whitney was talking about but she couldn't fool Whitney, she saw straight through her.
"Y/N/N, come on." Whitney raised her eyebrows at her friend. "It's just me."
Y/N let out a sigh, closing her eyes for a moment before letting them focus on Whitney. "I just feel...weird." She didn't want to elaborate, but she didn't need to. Whitney knew exactly what she had meant.
"About Drew?" Y/N nodded. "Is it because you invited him to a show? Because, honeslty, I really don't think it's a big deal. It doesn't have mean anything." Whitney tried reassuring Y/N, she thought Y/N was overthinking — it wasn't as if Drew was confessing his love for Y/N. They were far from that.
"It's not just that," Y/N admitted. "I want him to be here, I want to keep spending time with him, but I don't want it to mean something. But I know it will — to him." Y/N explained. "It's like catch twenty two. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place."
Whitney nodded. "I get it, but I think you're worrying too much. You're worrying about something that hasn't happened yet. Just...enjoy yourself. Enjoy him." Whitney told her. "It's nice seeing you happy." That was Whitney's way of saying she liked this version of Y/N — the one who smiled more, who had softened a little since meeting Drew.
Y/N simply nodded at Whitney's words, trying to take them on board. She did need to stop worrying. She was supposed to be enjoying tonight and instead she was sitting alone worrying about things that might not even happen. That wasn't like her at all.
And it was perfect timing, because as the two girls wrapped up their conversation and were about to head back to the others, Y/N had recieved a text message from Madelyn telling her that she and Drew had arrived. So Y/N excused herself from Whitney, slipping out the dressing room and headed to the back entrance of the venue.
Y/N spotted Madelyn first, her blonde hair sticking out like a beacon in the dimly lit car park. Y/N whistled, gaining the attention of the two actors. Drew had turned around, and thank god it was dark — because if she'd seen the look on his face in seeing her in her stage outfit, she would've run for the hills. If he were a cartoon, his eyes would have shot right out of his face.
She was wearing a baby pink corset with a heart-shaped cutout at the centre — her signature look — paired with a lacy pink skirt, white stockings, and her iconic chunky heeled boots. She looked unreal, and Drew couldn't keep his eyes off her.
Madelyn squealed and rushed over, wrapping Y/N in a hug. "You look amazing! I am so excited for the show." Madelyn gushed, giving her a squeeze before letting go.
Y/N laughed, hugging her back before turning to greet Drew. For a second, she wasn't sure how to greet him —but he made the choice easy. He stepped in, pressing a discreet kiss to her cheek before wrapping her in a brief but meaningful hug.
"You look incredible." He had whispered into her ear before letting her go. Y/N had simply smiled at his complement, before turning and leading the pair inside.
Drew had barely stepped into the backstage area when Y/N was being pulled away by tech to do final mic checks. He gave her a small, reassuring smile as she disappeared down the hallway, leaving him and Madelyn alone in the buzz of crew members and bandmates. But Madelyn disappeared quickly, having known a lot of Y/N's band and team that were there.
Then he noticed them.
Two girls were watching him from across the room, whispering behind the rims of their drinks like they were plotting. Which, to be fair, they probably were.
The taller one made the first move. She approached with a grin that was equal parts welcoming and mischievous.
"You must be Drew." She said, drawing out his name like it had extra syllables.
"Guilty." He replied with a hesitant smile. "And you must be—?"
"Whitney," She cut in. "and that's Paloma." She gestured behind her to the other girl, who gave him a small wave and a smile that said, good luck.
"We've heard so much about you." Whitney added, folding her arms and tilting her head, like she was about to conduct an interview. "All good things, of course."
Drew chuckled nervously, suddenly very aware of his posture. "Oh. That's...comforting?"
Whitney stepped closer, her voice dropping into something only just above a whisper — casual to an outsider, but very deliberate to Drew.
"So, let me get this straight. You spend a few months hanging out with Y/N, keeping her up till early hours in the morning and doing whatever it is that you two do — and now you're here, looking like a lost puppy, watching her like she hung the moon?"
Drew blinked. "I—uh—what?"
Paloma laughed behind Whitney. "She's just messing with you. Kind of."
Whitney's eyes sparkled. "No, I mean, it's cute. But we're protective. She doesn't bring people around unless she's serious about them. And you showing up at her show? That's kind of a statement, don't you think?"
"I—I didn't mean for it to be a statement," Drew said quickly. "I just wanted to support her. That's all."
"Relax." Whitney said with a grin, patting his shoulder. "You're doing great. I just like to see if they sweat a little. Keeps them humble."
Drew laughed, though it came out slightly strangled. "Mission accomplished."
Paloma stepped in, more gentle. "It's actually really nice to meet you, Drew. She's been...lighter lately. Happier. That's probably your fault." Paloma knew she shouldn't have said anything, but she couldn't help herself. The difference in Y/N lately had been nice to see.
His expression softened. "That's all I want. To be someone who adds, not takes away."
Whitney raised an eyebrow. "Good answer. We'll let you live."
Paloma smirked. "For now."
And with that, Y/N re-entered the room, completely unaware that her best friends had just put Drew through a covert emotional background check.
She smiled brightly at the three of them. "Everyone getting along?"
Whitney threw an arm around Drew's shoulders. "Oh, we love him. Don't we?" She asked Paloma.
"Adore." Paloma said, sweetly.
Drew shot them both a look. What just happened?
Y/N just laughed. "You look like you've been through a job interview."
He gave her a look. "Honeslty? It kind of felt like one."
Whitney winked. "Congrats, you're in the probation period."
As everyone began to scatter again — the stage manager calling out last minute cues, band members grabbing their instruments, lights flickering above — Y/N walking over to another member of the crew to get her ear pieces attached, with her two friends in tow.
"Well?" Y/N asked, casually tugging at her corset to make sure it still sat right. "You didn't terrorize him too much, did you?"
Whitney leaned in, eyes glinting.
"Oh, Y/N/N, he is even better looking in person," she whispered. "Like, annoyingly better looking."
Y/N blinked, then let out a laugh. "You're the worst."
"I'm just saying!" Whitney replied, holding her hands up in mock innocence. "I get it now. The late night texting. The mysterious smiles. The existential spirals. If that man was sending me late night voice notes, I'd be emotionally comprimised too."
Y/N rolled her eyes, trying to hide the very real blush creeping up her neck. "I hate you."
"You love me."
Y/N smiled, and for the first time all day, it felt real. Some of the tension melted from her shoulders, her nerves replaced by something warmer — lighter.
Then someone called her name.
"Five minutes!"
She peered behind a curtain, her band already in place, the stage lights dimming in preperation. The crows outside was starting to get louder with excitement, something that always made her heart race.
She turned back to her friends, Paloma giving her a gentle nudge.
"Go melt some hearts."
Y/N exhaled once, slowly — and then stepped forward, the air thick with adrenaline and music and something else entirely. As she moved towards the stage, she caught Drew's eyes from across the room as he was being ushered away by Madelyn to find their seats by the stage. His eyes were warm, proud.
He didn't say anything.
He didn't need to.
Y/N smiled to herself as they disappeared, moving towards the stage and standing behind the curtain.
This was her moment. A sold out show at the Greek Theatre. And she was ready.
From the moment Y/N stepped on stage, Drew forgot how to breathe. He'd seen her perform before — through videos online — but none of it prepared him for this. The way she came alive under the lights, for the absolute command she held over thousands of people with nothing more than a mic and that spark in her eyes.
She was radiant.
“She’s insane.” he muttered under his breath.
Next to him, Madelyn nodded like she’d been expecting that exact reaction. “I know, right?” She said, smiling. "I told you she was good."
Drew didn’t even respond. He was too busy watching Y/N strut across the stage, her voice cutting clean through the night air like it was made of something more than sound. There was power in it — raw, wild — and Drew swore it was crawling under his skin, curling up in his chest.
She glanced toward their side of the crowd once during a song — just for a second — and Drew wasn’t even sure if she saw him. But in that brief flash, her smile shifted. A tiny change. Softer. Like maybe she had.
And that was all it took to undo him a little more.
When the final song came, the crowd roared like a wave crashing down, and Drew found himself clapping, cheering, completely immersed — but his eyes never left her. Not once. And when she finally disappeared off stage, lights dimming and screams echoing behind her, Drew stayed rooted in place.
Madelyn looked over at him, amused.
“You’re so screwed.”
He just nodded, dazed. “Yeah.” He said. “I really am.”
After the show, it took a while to get through the chaos — people congratulating her, the crew high-fiving. But eventually, Y/N slipped away from the noise, back into the dim corridor leading to the dressing rooms.
And there he was, waiting.
Drew was leaning against the wall, hands in his pockets, still looking like he hadn’t quite recovered from what he’d just seen.
"You're still here?" Y/N's footsteps got slower as she reached him.
"Of course I am." Drew pushed himself off the wall. "They're all waiting for you inside the dressing room." Drew motioned towards the door behind him.
Y/N eyebrows pinched together softly. "Why aren't you?"
"Wanted to catch you, quickly, alone." His words made Y/N's heart skip a beat.
There was moment of silence.
"You survived then. My friends. The show." Y/N said, cracking a smile.
Drew smiled, slow and stunned. “I survived a lot tonight. Whitney. My own heart rate. That outfit.” He teased, eyes slowly raking down her body.
Y/N laughed, eyes lighting up.
“I mean it.” He said, taking a step towards her. “You were… I don’t have a word for it. Just — wow.”
“You think so?” She asked, voice quieter now.
“I know so.”
There was another beat of silence, and then she stepped into his space — not touching him yet, just close enough to feel the warmth.
“Thank you for coming.” She said. “I wasn’t sure you would.”
Drew tilted his head. “Why wouldn’t I?”
"Because we agreed this wasn't going to be anything more than what it already is."
"And it's not." He said softly. "But that doesn't mean I don't care."
Y/N looked up at him, her expression unreadable. Vulnerable. Brave.
“I care too.” She admitted.
Drew blinked. That wasn’t what he’d expected. It was better.
Without thinking, he reached up and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, letting his hand linger for just a second too long. Then his hand dropped. "You should go in before Madelyn sends out a search party for you."
Y/N chuckled before nodding. She then slowly slipped past Drew and entered the door on the right, leaving Drew outside. He waited a few moments before following her in.
He found her surrounded — Whitney perched on the couch with a drink in hand, Paloma sitting cross-legged on the floor, a half-eaten box of pizza between them. Madelyn was already talking animatedly with one of the band members, like she’d been part of the crew for years.
Y/N had taken her place in the center, sitting on the arm of the chair near Whitney, her boots finally kicked off, cheeks still flushed pink from the show — and maybe from him.
No one said anything when Drew entered. They didn’t have to. He got a few knowing smiles, a subtle nod from Whitney, and a teasing wiggle of the brows from Paloma that made him want to crawl under the couch. But it was all in good spirit.
He caught Y/N's eye for just a second.
She smiled. Just for him.
He sat down quietly in the corner, not trying to take up space, not needing to. It was enough to just be near her. To exist in the same room, in her orbit, while she laughed with her friends and recounted a moment from the set that didn’t go to plan but somehow made the song even better.
She was radiant, and completely at ease — the kind of beautiful that didn’t need lighting or makeup or music to shine.

Y/N DIDN'T OFTEN EXPERIENCE deja vu, or even at all. But when she locks eyes with Drew at yet another event, she feels it, causing her to almost irrupt into a fit of giggles. Was the universe trying to tell her something? Was there a reason it kept pulling her and Drew together?
He didn't approach her straight away, as he was in conversation with somebody else but he smiled, almost a smirk, before his eyes averted away. Meaning he didn't see the deep blush take over her face. She felt like she was back in High School. What was this man doing to her? Y/N needed to get it together before somebody caught on to the effect he had on her. Or before he caught on.
Little did she know, Drew was feeling the exact same. How could a girl he'd met no more than three times have such an effect on him? He'd locked eyes with Y/N, then looked away, but he couldn't stop thinking about her. The way her eyes sparkled when she saw him, the sound of her giggling at his pathetic attempts of flirting with her and the way she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Drew Starkey could not get Y/N Y/L/N out of his head, no matter how much he tried. Not that he was trying too hard.
After a few more minutes, Y/N had made her way over to the bar. She had brought Paloma along with her but she was long gone, Y/N assumed she was around somewhere trying to see who the most famous person she could talk to that night was. But Y/N didn't mind, not when she knew Drew was around somewhere.
The glass of her drink had barely reached her lips when a familiar voice spoke from behind her. "Well, well, well, fancy seeing you here." The voice spoke with a hint of amusement, causing her to smile. She placed her glass back on the bar and turned around.
There he was. Blue eyes staring into her own. "Hey, Starkey." Y/N teased, leaning back on the bar behind her. Her eyes quickly detoured down him, trying to covertly check him out but Drew saw, as clear as day.
"Oh, is that how it is? Not even first name basis." His eyebrows raised at Y/N’s words, teasing her. "I'm hurt, Y/L/N." Drew held his hand up to his chest. His chest that was covered in a black button up. Y/N noticed how he'd ditched the jacket, there was no tie, and the first three buttons had been disregarded. Showing off the top of his chest. Was he trying to kill her?
Unbeknown to her, she wasn't the only one focused on what the other one was wearing. Drew felt as though he couldn't breathe. Y/N looked unbelievable and he couldn't stop his eyes from dropping down. Who wore leather to an industry event anyway? But he wasn't going to complain.
Y/N frowned in a teasing way. "Drew isn't even your first name anyway." She pointed out before raising her own eyebrows.
"How do you know that?" Drew laughed, had she been Googling him?
"Maddie told me." Y/N shrugged her shoulders. It wasn't a big deal that her and Maddie were talking about him, right?
"You've been talking about me with Maddie?" Drew's face had unknowingly lit up.
Y/N felt her face heat up again but she tried to brush it off. "Maybe." She reached for her drink to distract Drew from her flushed face. "So, Joseph, are you following me or what?" Y/N then changed the subject, they didn't need to discuss that she was talking about him with Madelyn.
"You wish." Drew laughed, crossing his arms over his chest, trying to act cool. But all Y/N could focus on was how his shirt tightened around his biceps when he did that.
Her eyes went back up to his face, and Drew expected her to laugh but she didn't. "Maybe I do." She wasn't going to lie.
"Oh yeah?" Drew smirked and Y/N's body reacted in a way she had never felt before.
"Yeah." She mirrored his smirk.
And that was it for the rest of the night. The two were glued to each other. Y/N and Drew had migrated over to the very end of the bar together, sitting opposite each other on two bar stools. Y/N hadn't even noticed but every time one of them had stood up, their stools seemed to get closer and closer together. Till their knees were slotted in between one another's. Y/N's left leg was slotted firmly between Drew's, meaning she could not move away. Luckily, she hadn't wanted to.
That had also meant Y/N was in perfect reaching distance of Drew. So he could place his hand directly onto her knee, casually without being too obvious.
The first time he did it, she had noticed. Although she had been wearing leather trousers, his hand felt as though it was burning a hole through them. The next few times he did it, she hadn't noticed as much. Then in the end, he hadn't even moved it away. Drew's hand stayed there till they had left that night.
There was laughing, and giggling from Y/N, flirting and teasing. If anyone was in earshot of the two, it would've been plastered all over the news the next morning. But nobody was really paying attention to either of them. Which was nice. Y/N didn't have to worry about what anybody would say.
The only person who really took notice was Paloma, who had circled back around to find Y/N. But when Paloma saw who Y/N was with, she decided to stay away. She hadn't seen her that happy in a while.
After an hour, or maybe two, of talking, Y/N was maybe tipsy enough to be braver than she usually would. Their last conversation had ended. Drew's hand was still resting on Y/N’s knee but now her hand was with his, fingers running over his own and over his rings. She hesitated before she spoke but meant every word. "Would it be totally inappropriate to ask you if you wanna get out of here?" Y/N said, eyes flickering up to meet his. She smirked, running her fingers around his own and holding them. The tension between the two was becoming too much for them both.
"Absolutely not, let's go." And Y/N had never seen Drew move so fast. Although he didn't let go of her hand, he used the other one to down his drink and he stood up, taking Y/N with him.
She had started to giggle at his eagerness but found it oddly attractive. "Okay, slow down." She said in between laughter leaving her mouth. She brought his hand closer to herself, gaining his attention.
"You want me to slow down?" Drew raised an eyebrow at her as he placed the glass back down on the bar.
Y/N paused, staring up into his eyes. Did she want him to slow down? "No, not really." She said softly, before letting Drew practically drag her out of the building.
A taxi took them back to Y/N's apartment. Only because it was closer. Y/N had also texted Paloma while in the taxi, telling her she'd left with Drew and that she'd pay for a taxi for her back to her apartment. She felt awful for ditching her friend but she knew she wouldn't mind, Paloma wasn't that kind of person.
The taxi ride was filled with Y/N's giggles as Drew whispered things into her ear. They couldn't keep their hands off each other as Y/N found herself unbuttoning more buttons on Drew's shirt. Her nails tracing patterns into his skin. Her touch was electric and Drew knew he wouldn't be able to stay away from her now.
When they got dropped off at her apartment building, Y/N led Drew inside. He followed behind her as she made her way over to the elevators. Y/N pressed the button and felt Drew press himself into her from behind, wrapping his arms around her waist softly. Drew's lips then found her neck, and her collarbone, and her shoulders. He only stopped when the doors opened in front of them.
The two adults stumbled inside, more laughter leaving Y/N's mouth. She pressed her back against the wall of the elevator, after pressing the right floor number. Drew stood in front of her, towering over her small frame. Y/N slowly wrapped her arms around Drew's shoulders, bringing herself closer to his face. They didn't move any closer, although there wasn't much room between them anyway. As they stared into each other's eyes. Y/N slowly moved her hands up to the back of his neck, stopping before bringing him any closer.
"If you kiss me right now, I am not going to be able to stay away from you." She admitted, eyes glancing down at his lips.
Drew wanted to laugh, was that supposed to make him want him to stop? "Maybe that's exactly what I want." Drew told her before he closed the distance between them himself.
Y/N had never had a first kiss so electrifying. She'd never had one that made her body feel on fire and so calm at the same time. It just felt right.
But unfortunately, it was short lived as the sound of the elevator doors opening forced the two apart. Y/N grabbed hold of Drew's hand, dragging him along behind her to her apartment. She dug her keys from her bag, fumbling with them as she tried to unlock the door. When she finally did, Drew followed her inside and into her kitchen, where Y/N threw her phone and bag onto the side.
"Do you want a —" She attempted to ask Drew if he wanted a drink, trying to occupy herself as she wasn't really sure what was about to happen next and didn't want to just assume why Drew had accompanied her back to her apartment. Although the reason she assumed, she really hoped was the reason.
Luckily for Y/N, she didn't need to assume as Drew spun her around and pressed her against the kitchen counter. Drew's lips found Y/N's again, but this time it was more forceful, more passionate. It meant more than a hesitant, slow kiss in an elevator. This one was leading somewhere.
The kiss became faster, like they were afraid the other would disappear. Drew's hands found a place on Y/N's waist, gripping the leather covering her skin. Y/N's had found place on Drew's jaw, giving her a sense of control. They continued, till Y/N needed to catch her breath. She pulled away, keeping her hands on Drew's face but Drew had other plans. His mouth attached itself to Y/N's jawline, making it's way down to her neck and even further.
The sounds of Y/N's breathing filled the room as she attempted to fill her lungs again but Drew was making it awfully difficult. Her empty fingers found space in his hair, nails scratching his scalp. Drew had lightly nipped the skin above her collarbone, eliciting a soft moan from Y/N's lips. "You have no idea how much I have thought about this since meeting you." Drew's words were muffled, not wanting to remove himself from Y/N.
Y/N found herself smiling, even though Drew couldn't see. "I think I have a slight idea."
Finally, Drew had removed his face from her neck. His face was red and his lips were swollen but Y/N had never been more attracted to him. "God, you're so beautiful." His 6 foot 2 frame towered over her 5 foot one. "I can die a happy man now."
A laugh escaped Y/N's lips as she shook her head at the man. "You're ridiculous."
"Is that why you're blushing?" He smirked, leaning his head back down but stopped before their lips touched.
thank you so much for all the love on this fic so far! i didn’t think that many people would be reading this on here. so thank you!
IT WAS ANOTHER WEEKEND in Los Angeles, which meant another event filled with celebrities and unfluencers. Y/N didn't even know what the event was for anymore, she had met so many people that night, shaken so many hands and repeated her name so many times that it had slipped her mind what she was actually there for. It had also slipped her mind that Madelyn had messaged her that morning to tell her that she was attending the same event. So Y/N hadn't remembered to look for Madelyn. She also hadn't had the time to, even if she had remembered.
But Madelyn had remembered. She had been looking for Y/N the minute she stepped foot on the carpet that night. Even when she had bumped into Drew that night, she was still looking for her. But Madelyn didn't want Drew to know she had been looking for Y/N the entire time the two had been talking. So she tried to act as though she wasn't even sure if Y/N were there. "I think Y/N/N is here tonight, I should text her." Madelyn had said, slipping her phone out of her bag. Not even sure if she would have her phone on her to see the message.
Drew had frowned. "Who the hell is Y/N/N?" He hadn't a single clue who Madelyn was talking about.
"Sorry, Y/N." Madelyn corrected herself, thinking using her name would be clearer. Not everyone called her ‘Y/N/N'.
"I'm still confused." The frown stayed on Drew's face.
It was then Madelyn's turn to frown. "Y/N Y/L/N?" She questioned. But the confused look stayed on Drew's face. "Come on, Drew." Madelyn spoke about her enough for Drew to have recognised the name.
"Am I supposed to know who that is?" Drew asked her, before taking a sip from his drink.
"Drew...I am shocked." Madelyn couldn't believe Drew didn't have a single clue who Y/N was. Madelyn's best friend for the past two years.
"Is this the same person you talk about all the time? The singer." It was as though a lightbulb went off in Drew's head. All the times Madelyn spoke about her, he had suddenly remembered.
"Yes!"
"Right. I still don't really know who she is." Although he knew Y/N was friends with Madelyn, he still wasn't sure who she was. Had never seen her anywhere before or listened to any of her music. For all he knew, Madelyn could have been making her up.
Madelyn rolled her eyes and looked back down at her phone to text Y/N. "I'll introduce you to her. She's amazing, you'll love her."
"Sure." Drew knew Madelyn was only saying that because she loved Y/N. It wasn't as though he'd become friends with her, or even see her again. At least so he thought.
A good 20 minutes had passed. The topic of Y/N had been left and Drew and Madelyn continued to speak about other things. Till a familiar face walked into sight. "Y/N/N!" Madelyn shouted for her, hoping she was loud enough for her to hear.
Y/N had finally been given a minute to breathe and was on her way to grab a drink when she heard somebody calling her name. "Oh my God, Maddie." Y/N had never been so happy to see her friend. She approached Madelyn, completing missing for a second that Madelyn had been standing with somebody else. She uickly wrapped her arms around her friend, giving her a squeeze. "Please save me. I haven't had a minute to even think since I got here." Y/N had said as she hugged her friend.
"Okay, Miss Popular." Madelyn laughed as she released Y/N from her hold.
Y/N then pouted. "I've missed you." Two months without having time to see each other was too long. The two had been inseparable since the moment they had met two years ago.
"I missed you too." Madelyn mirrored her pout. She then heard a cough from beside her. "Oh, Y/N/N, this is Drew." Madelyn had completely forgotten Drew was beside her. But Y/N had noticed. His piercing stare had caught her attention the moment she saw him standing with Madelyn. "Drew, this is Y/N."
Y/N had a hunch it was Drew standing beside Madelyn. She'd obviously never met him before but she had seen the odd photo, and had watched Outer Banks before. Madelyn also spoke about him a lot. "Ah, the famous Drew Starkey." Y/N smiled at him. "It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you." Her smile grew and Drew had almost forgotten to reply.
"You have?" He raised an eyebrow.
Y/N nodded. "Yeah. From Maddie, Chase. You're probably the only one I hadn't met." She had seemed to have met all of Madelyn's costars and friends except for Drew.
"Well, it's nice to finally meet the Y/N/N that Madelyn won't shut up about." Drew smiled, feeling himself feeling strange under her gaze.
"Aww." She turned to Madelyn.
"It's true, I do talk about you a lot." Madelyn said, nodding her head. She wasn't embarrassed about it, Y/N knew how much Madelyn adored her.
Y/N was about to turn back to Drew, say something else but she was interrupted by her name being called. "Y/N." The voice of her manager filled her ears and she winced.
"Oh no, I'm being summoned."
Y/N's manager approached her from the side, gently placing her hand on her shoulder. "Sorry to interrupt, but there's somebody I want you to meet."
"Okay, coming." Y/N smiled and nodded, before turning back to Madelyn and Drew. "Sorry, I can't stay and chat." She told them both. She then looked towards Madelyn. "We'll meet up soon, okay?" Madelyn nodded. Y/N then turned to Drew. "And it was nice to meet you, Drew." She gave him a smile, her cheeks flushing but she didn't notice.
"Yeah, you too." Drew mirrored her smile, and her flushed cheeks. Y/N then disappeared into the crowd and Drew never saw her again that night. But her face and her voice spent the night in his head. He couldn't seem to think about anything else, even for days after.
