Morning Cocktail

This is one of many Corpse Reviver cocktails that use brandy and sharp flavors to shock a hangover out of your system. As far and I can tell, it would work if you can stomach such a rich cocktail. I recommend using cognac for more smoothness. Orange bitters, maraschino liqueur and Pernod spice things up quite a bit. I love the complexity of this cocktail that is as good in the morning as before or after dinner.

Suffering Bastard

It's a hangover cure, a gin drink, a brandy drink and a ginger beer cocktail. But we should note that Angostura bitters is the main ingredient when it comes to taste. A tablespoon of bitters has an outsize effect on a drink. My new ginger beer is Cock and Bull, a funny label that indicates that this product is a Moscow Mule mixer. What about a Bastard mixer?

Daily MCO Drink #263, MCO Day #265: CORPSE REVIVER NO.1, made with 2 parts Hennessy VS cognac, 1 part Coquelin XO Calvados, 1 part Eiling Lim Private Selection “Wen” Single Cask sweet vermouth from Lacuesta, stirred over ice and strained. . I’ve previously made the Corpse Reviver No.2, which was one of 2 Corpse Revivers in Harry Craddock’s Savoy Cocktail Book. . This one is more straightforward, both in the recipe and taste. Daily MCO Drink #19, MCO Day No.20: Corpse Reviver No.2, made with 1 part Gin Mare, 1 part Mancino Secco vermouth, 1 part Cointreau Noir, 1 part lemon juice, 1/4 part of Angelique Verte Suisse absinthe. . As the name suggests, a Corpse Reviver is meant to ‘revive corpses’, or rather, hungover ‘corpses’ in the morning. . It’s the first time I’ve made this at home, and I have to say, the equal parts of the base spirits make it quite easy to get the proper balance, plus the absinthe adds a nice ‘wake-up call’ amidst the flavours of juniper (gin), wine (vermouth), citrus (lemon juice) and orange (triple sec). .
