Earlier this month I competed in a cosplay competition for the first time
And I'm SO glad to report that it went better than I could have ever imagined!

THIS COSTUME won a Best Journeyman's award!!!!!
For those uninitiated, cosplay craftsmanship competitions are usually split into 3 levels based on competition experience; Novice, Journeyman, and Master. When you first start competing, you start in novice, and once you win a certain number of Best Novice awards, you're bumped up into Journeyman.
This being my first time competing, winning Best Journeyman means that my work was judged above everyone who entered as a Novice, AND everyone who entered as a Journeyman, which still feels INSANE to me. I fully was not expecting to get bumped, there were so many amazing contestants that I was FLOORED when they called my number to go up and receive my award. I'm so incredibly honored to have shared the stage with so many amazing cosplayers and to have my work deemed worthy of recognition!
For all the stress and challenge the build brought, I'm SO glad I finally took the plunge and competed like I had been wanting to do for so long! Having the contest as a motivator to push myself really helped me create work that I'm extremely proud of!
I think it's safe to say I've been bitten by the competition bug, and I WILL be doing this again. Maybe a little spaced out so I can avoid the burnout lol, but I've already got SO many ideas. Stay tuned, there will be more to come...
