Look, imma be real, i knew the Lt.Cmdr was gonna die as soon as he said he hadn't had shore leave in 6 months and bet an extra day of shore leave on the mission success. Its the rules of military tv/movie tropes. If a character is about to go home for any reason, they are guaranteed to die. I said goodbye to him before the mission started.
