Cotl Lore Thoughts: Weapons & Curses
Each curse and weapon has a little bit of flavor text attached to it, many of which are pretty cool! Going to share some of my favorites below:
Godly Axe: "The blade that severed the Lands of the Old Faith from the world."
To be honest, this is probably my favorite lore bit, because I think it hints to a LOT of possibilities that we haven't seen. But I digress.
Godly Hammer: "Shaped these lands to the desires of their Gods." Again, hints a lot towards the actual world of the Old Faith, and how it's somehow "removed" from the rest of the world.
Divine Blizzard: "The breath of a forgotten God... once stronger than all."
Alludes to Haro's words about how Gods were once a dime a dozen, but were all either consumed or forgotten, or, quote, "Mayhap they left. Mayhap they slept. Mayhap they devoured and were devoured in turn." We might indeed meet some of these remaining Gods in the future DLC!
Maelstrom: "An Old God may still reside in the depths."
Interesting how the "Old Faith" has Bishops, not Gods, and I don't think any of the Bishops are referred to as "Old Gods". Maybe the Old Faith is upholding the creeds of these Old Gods, and the Bishops are all just.. you know... bishops. Speakers of the Old Gods. Or a singular Old God.
Godly Dagger: "Stolen from the tomb of one of the Old Gods."
Once again, Old Gods are mentioned, and I have to wonder how the current Bishops are related to them. Might be my crappy memory, but are the Bishops ever called Gods, other than Narinder?
(Worth noting here, Heket does say, "We are the guardians of the true word". Guardians--not Gods. And I can't see anywhere that the Bishops call themselves Gods, other than the final fight with Narinder.)
I'll start to wrap up this post, and I will say that a good deal of the Frost-oriented curses reference some kind of God, or a "Winter Year", while many others are more firmly just flavor text, like "Used to release the restless spirits" and "Draw the life from others". There is a general theme among them: Gods, and death, which makes sense given that these weapons are all probably from the armory of The One Who Waits. After all, one of them was used against the Gods...
Godly Sword: "Once used to draw Godly blood..."
