What’s up, Tobermory? ☀️ After what felt like a never-ending winter, the sun is finally showing up… and so are the exterior projects. 🙌 We’re kicking things off in the Dorcas Bay area with an exterior renovation on this beautiful Viceroy cottage. New siding, a refreshed front elevation, and a full inspection behind the walls to make sure everything is solid before we build it back better. We’re starting at the rake wall — the place where hidden issues usually like to show up 👀 — but so far, good news. Vince and Riley are on site keeping things clean, protected, and dialed in as always. This one’s going to be a transformation. Foundation Test for a Cottage Addition | Can This Old Cabin Handle a Second Story?

Before you can plan a home addition, you need to know what’s beneath your feet. 🧰🏡 On this early November site visit, we opened up a test hole to assess the foundation of this charming old cottage. Built in true cabin style, its structure tells a story—and adding a second story will require creativity, engineering, and smart planning. ✨

The good news? It’s possible. 🙌 Foundation assessments like this help us understand what the existing structure can safely support before moving into design. It’s all part of building with intention—making sure the work is safe, structurally sound, and respectful of the original home.
