One of the positive outcomes of my recent trip to Germany was that I relearned to appreciate the beauty of the country that I am born and raised in. As always, I feel especially drawn to the old houses and their beautiful architecture and want to share a cottage with you, that is typical in its architectural style of the area that I come from. It sits on the old marketplace surrounding the church of a small town named Wülfrath. Many of these old houses are clad in beautiful charcoal colored slate and are build in the 17th century. The particular green color of the shutters is also a very common feature of the houses build around that time and area. What I especially like about this one is, how all the window boxes and flowers in the front and the cozy sitting area enhance the beauty of the cottage and make it so inviting. I am curious, does this style of architecture speaks to you as well? Do you like houses clad in slate? Do you love the window boxes brimming with plants, too, or would you prefer a more simple and sleep look? As many of you know, who read the captions of my last two posts, the reason for my trip to Germany was not for leisure. My mom was diagnosed with a severe illness and needed to undergo major surgery and I went there to support her. Unfortunately, according to her physicians the surgery will not cure the illness, so the worries about my mom’s health will continue and it was very hard to leave her behind although she is recovering relatively well from the surgery. This all has taken a huge psychological toll on me and even though I appreciated all your well wishes and prayers for my mom and me so much, I wasn’t emotionally able to respond individually to all of your comments. I just want you to know that they meant a lot to me, no matter if I replied or not! As hard as it is after staying in Germany with my mom for about eight weeks, I had to fly back to America and continue my own life. I am now back home with my husband and our dogs in Austin, again, and at least that part feels so good! #cottage #organicgardendreams #germany #oldhouses #oldcottage #wülfrath #slate #windowbox #windowboxes #cottages #oldcottages #smalltown (at Herzog-Wilhelm-Markt, Wülfrath) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF8KvZhg7u7/?igshid=1lkt0k90hdwhw
