The Daleks Master Plan - Part Five: Counter Plot

(“Visians. The planet Mira!” – The Doctor figuring out where they are when he beats away a Visian with his stick.)
- That Sara actually killed her brother. Bret was her sibling all along, and she’s sad she did it, but she thought he was a traitor to the peace of the entire galaxy. She soon found out she was wrong in blindly following Mavic Chen.
- The mice are cute. Yeah, I like mice.
- The cheap way the crew got out of coming up with a design for a new monster, by having the Visians invisible 8’ tall monsters. Lol.
- I actually really liked Karlton this episode. I like him more than Chen, who has gone back to annoying.
- All the scientists wanted to do was do their experiments and are happy it was successful, regardless of the Doctor and co travelling along with them.
- The planet Mira looks awesome. I love this show when it does swampy areas. They do it so well.
- The mice get killed by Daleks because they could be hostile life forms. Boo. No, they’re cute lab mice going for a trip through space.
- Mavic Chen suddenly shouting out loud in a room that basically echoes and heightens sounds, his plans of conquering the universe. Or at least the seven galaxies involved. What an idiot. Don’t go screaming out your evil plots. Especially to someone who is saying things which are suspiciously sounding like plans of their own.
- Why didn’t Steven give Sara the gun when they were being surrounded by Visians. She is clearly on their side by this time, and willing to work with them instead of Mavic Chen. She knows how to use it, and would be better suited to having her weapon back. Steven can be on rock throwing duty. The Doctor already has his stick.
- The whole Mira set is awesome. This show does swamp so well, as mentioned earlier.
- The cage the mice are in looks awesome. Hope those mice were happy in there. They could see well out of it as it was transparent and not as cage like. More like a terrarium with a blinky beeping transmitter attached. They even had a wheel to run on. Aww.
- The way they transition from Earth to Mira by having Sara and Steven jumping on the spot and them being pained by the noise of it, and the zooming mouse cage at the end, heee. I love how they included the mouse cage as an important part of the process and is the last thing you see of it. It was a silly but nice bit of special effect work, and that’s what this show does so well this early on.
- The special effect of the Visian prints appearing in the sand on the planet. It looks awesome.
- The sound effects on Mira are nice.
- The beeping sound of the transmitter was a bit too loud and high pitched for me.
This seems like a filler episode, but an enjoyable one. It is all there, so easy to watch. It has some awesome scenes in it with special effects, especially the two listed in the awesome section.
It didn’t do much to move the plot on, but we at least get to know a bit more about the characters. Mavic Chen was chosen because he is a mineralogist and knew about the Taranium and Sara Kingdom is very loyal to whoever she knows is in charge and telling the truth, so the TARDIS team now can claim her as one of their own without much trouble. Also, she feels bad about killing Bret, but she honestly did think him a traitor and a danger to the entire galaxy and he had to be killed.
Apart from those little titbits, I think this was just an excuse to have some fun after the huge body count the last episode and to add in some cute mice to ease the hurt of losing Katarina and Bret.
Two mice for the two missing crew.
Yeah, filler, but great filler. I wish all filler episodes were like this.
Body count – 4. Two mice killed by Daleks for just being there. And two Visians who got in the way of the Daleks, but really are hostile life forms.
