Likes
- The Monk being wrapped up like a mummy. Pfff, the Doctor has a weird sense of humour sometimes.
- That it becomes clear that the Doctor turned the Monk’s TARDIS into the same image as his own had a definite plan to it. To trick the Dalek’s to follow the Monk instead of the Doctor.
- The Doctor stealing the directional unit of the Monk’s TARDIS so he could pinpoint exactly where his TARDIs goes next. But it could either work or destroy the console.
- The look on Sara’s face when the Doctor said that yes, they’d try it anyway.
- Steven and Sara completely ignoring the Monk when he was complaining about a headache to try and get in the TARDIS. lol.
- That the servant/slave of the guy in charge of the building of the pyramid is told off for thinking that the voice coming from the sky was a god. The leader totally said something along the lines of how it couldn’t be their Gods because they speak words that don’t make sense and it must be a trick from the war machines (the Daleks). He’s totally right and it is a breath of fresh air to have someone from so far back in time not fall for that. He’s a smart cookie that one.
- The Monk saying the Steven and Sara’s inability to believe him has destroyed his faith in humanity.
Dislikes
- Steven....there are Daleks around everywhere, and your first way of thinking of finding someone is to scream out their name over and over. Bringing all the Daleks in the area right to your position. You idiot!
- Sara didn’t get to do much this episode, which is a shame. She’s so good and should be able to kick ass every episode.
- That a Dalek is so easily stopped. I mean, even worse than usual. It gets stuck between one of the dead bodies and a pile of rocks scattered at the bottom of its ‘shell’.
- The poor TARDIS has it rough at the end of this episode. Her console kind of went boom there.
Awesome
- Don’t usually put these but, the fluffed line in which Hartnell said magic instead of Mavic, making the sentence Magic Mavic Chen. Just...heee.
- I really like the wall set in this episode. I have no idea why. Probably because it actually looks like a good wall.
- The footage of the blizzard over ice from when the Monk first finds out about the missing directional unit, when he ends up on a frozen planet when he didn’t put in the coordinates to go there. Don’t know if it was effect or stock footage, but it was definitely impressive either way.
- The prop of the directional unit. Just...I love parts of TARDISes. And now we know what one looks like. Just like the fluid link from The Daleks. We’re learning more about the TARDIS and what makes her tick.
Shitty
- The majority of the Egyptians in the episode being white. I can’t tell if the main guy is in black face or is POC. But why just him and not the others?
- I don’t like when characters speak over each other, and while said scene goes on my likes list because it was funny, I couldn’t really understand what ether party was saying because it is just a jumble of noise.
- I didn’t like the look of the Monk’s TARDIS as an iceberg.
In Conclusion
I liked this episode a lot. It was all there to see in motion. It was funny and had its exciting moments. It had a silly battle between the workers and the daleks. And Mavic Chen wasn’t annoying again. No, really, the more he actually goes on in this serial the more I like him as a character. Definitely don’t like him as a person though because he’s going to commit genocide on a massive scale, but he’s becoming a great character. Took me a while to see it, but I got there within the last few episodes of this epic.
Death count – 6. All of them people working on the pyramids. Killed by Daleks.
I daresay I'm beginning to like this Monk fellow. He reminds me of Gaius Baltar with his charming desperation to survive.
