You’ve heard of the Faeries, the Fae, or the Sidhe.
They live in the mountains, forests, deserts, and sea.
How many there are, you may wonder and ask,
To count all of them is a ponderous task.
To help you begin, we’ve brought forth just a few,
In an ABC rhyme that we’ve made just for you.
A is for Aos Sí, People of the Mounds.
B is for Brownie, whose help knows no bounds
C is for Cú Chulainn, a Hero of Lore.
He broke his own geis and died in a war.
D is for Duergar also Dwarf and Disir,
Two are quite nice, but one causes fear.
E for the Erlking, a lord of the Fae.
F is for Fetes, their words know the way.
G is for Gentry, a title we hold.
It's also for Goblins, the cruel and the bold.
H is for Host. There are many of these.
One hundred or more, far too many to please.
I is for Iron, the bane of us all.
Don’t threaten us dear, or we’ll cause your downfall.
J is for Juniper, a tree evergreen.
Burn its ground berries to seek out the unseen.
K is for Kelpie, beware of the lake,
If you wish to ride one, your life they will take.
L is for Lugh of the storms and the sun,
With a flash of his spear, the battle is won.
M is of course for Manannán Mac Lir,
Foster father of Lugh, from the sea he’ll appear.
N is for nymphs, born from Nature’s embrace.
O is for Otherworld, a vast and dangerous place.
P is of course for the Pixies so small,
They seem sweet and kind, but they’re not nice at all.
Q for the Queens with formidable powers.
R is for Robin, playing tricks at all hours.
S for the Sidhe, just a one of our names.
It’s also for Seelie, a court who plays games.
T for the Trolls and also the Trow,
They’re almost the same, so please watch where you go.
U is at last the dread Unseelie Court.
A place for the Winter’s most deadliest sport.
For if you are caught amid the ice and the snow,
You’ll be trapped there forever, with nowhere to go.
V is for Virikas, W for Wisp.
Both are dark spirits, you will wish you had missed.
X is for Xenial, we’re your generous Hosts.
Y for the Yew, tree of immortality and ghosts.
Finally Z is for the word Zillion,
A hundred a thousand times more than a million.
This number describes in its inexact way,
The countless number of hosts and courts of the Fae.
