#course conflict

I currently have a 1 hour conflict between a tutorial, and a BLEN class. I was wondering if you guys have experience with blended classes, and how they've worked for you in the past? Do you think if I can't change my tutorial, that i'll be able to keep both? Whether it involves leave the lecture an hour early to make my tutorial or something? Has anyone had this problem before? Or will I be automatically removed from a class because of the conflict?

I’ve done several BLEN courses and typically in a blended courses you will have lecture every other week, so they will conflict on those days either way. The problem with your conflict is the tutorial, you should most definitely attend every tutorial as most have participation or attendance marks associated with them. IMO I would recommend changing the tutorial or the BLEN course.

No they don’t de-enroll you if you have a conflict, it’s the student’s responsibility to resolve a conflict.

The other issue you should consider are test/exam days, and whether the conflict is worth it in that scenario, you won’t be able to get an exemption for those days just because you chose to proceed with a conflict in place.

How can u tell if the classes that are in conflict are every other week?? I have a conflict but I'm not sure if it's just the every other week thing or an actual issue

Check the details for the class and see if it is offered every week or biweekly.

Hi so I have a little problem with my courses. I have to classes that I really want to take. One of them I am already enrolled in, the second I will sort out with the prof. The problem is that they overlap. One is from 230 to 530. Another is from 4 to 7. Is it possible for me to take it anyway? Like would I be able to enroll in both? The first class is really easy so I'm planning to leave at the break and go to my 4pm class.

Yes it’s possible to enroll in both, you just have to be careful about class tests and things like that because you can’t be in two places at once.

Hi, i need advice on switching tutorials. I messaged the ta whose tutorial I want to switch into and told them I had a scheduling conflict when in fact that tutorial and my original tutorial run at the same time in the same building. He emailed me back and told me to go to his tutorial this week and see if another student would be willing to switch. I don't know what to do now since the both of the tutorials are at the same time. I wanted to tell the ta the real reason for switching but a friend

This is a classic example of where lying can cause uncomfortable situations to occur. :P Well, you can attend the tutorial if you like, but there’s a high chance that the TA will ask when your tutorial is in case someone is interested in switching. If you want to avoid that situation then you shouldn’t attend the tutorial and just stick with the one you have.

Hey, so I just added a full year class onto my schedule, but it overlaps with one of my winter classes. This doesn’t bother me, but on the bottom on my schedule it says:

“There is at least one block of time above where more than one course is scheduled to meet simultaneously. All such blocks of time are listed below, along with the courses in conflict for each. Note that some conflicts are allowed: there are courses which schedule bi-weekly lectures and tutorials which will appear to conflict, even though they are held in alternate weeks. If your conflict is between a lecture and tutorial for the same course, please check with the department that offers the course.”

I checked my financial statement and it hasn’t been added to it yet. My question is:

1. Does it take time for my class’ charge to be added to my financial statement?

2. Will the fact that it conflicts with another class prevent it from being added onto my schedule and therefore my financial statement?

1. Yes, that’s why you should check your transactions (which updates earlier).

Same anon who asked about having 2 mandatory courses at the same time: what if its my last semester at York? And both of the courses are required for me to graduate but there is no other section available?

You can do the course in the summer then. I don’t see how it’s possible to be at two places at once and neither have I heard of anyone get accommodation for the type of situation you’re in. It’s the student’s responsibility to ensure that that they choose the right courses and plan their education accordingly so they can graduate on time. If you have a course conflict then you have to resolve that yourself.

What happens if I need to take 2 full year mandatory courses that are at the same time (double major) how would York accomadate this?

Well they can’t really, you can’t be in two places at the same time. :P You should either choose a different section of the course or do it in another semester.

same anon trying to take conflicting courses. So will I be able to resolve an exam (final exam, not midterm) conflict if I end up having? Wont they know that I have taken conflicting courses and say no? I've never done this before so I'm pretty scared something will go wrong but I need both courses

From what I’m aware, the university resolves exam conflicts, like I already said.

I can’t speak from personal experience because I never went through any session with a course conflict. If you’re scared then you shouldn’t go through with it. Other than that, I can’t really say much sorry.
