2017 Baja 500 course map. The race course is set to cover 515 miles and will start and finish in Ensenada. This year marks the 49th anniversary of the Baja 500 race which will take place between May 31st and June 4th 2017.

A couple of sections of the race course that will be new to many racers.

With fewer than 500 feet of climbing and descending, you'll admire the beauty of the surrounding desert as you follow this paved run from Furnace Creek Ranch along Hwy. 190 through the heart of Death Valley National Park. The entire course is below sea level with fantastic vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges: the Panamints, the Funerals, the Cottonwoods, the Blacks and the Grapevines. The desert is beautiful this time of year with mild temperatures; lows range between 30 and 40 degrees and highs hit the low 70s. Consider this the most unique way to qualify for the Boston Marathon. What’s left to say?

Last Sunday was the Lake Hodges Trail Fest. It includes a 50k, 15k, 5k and kid’s mile. It’s put on by Paul Jesse of Off Road Pursuits (he does great races). I love to promote his events so he gave me a free entry to this one. THANK YOU, SIR!

I was originally running the 5k until I realized that the 15k would fit better with my half marathon…
