“My name is Caleb Widogast and this is Jackass”
ep. 32 → ep. 115
(inspired by this post)
Can we just take a moment to really imagine what this epilogue would have been like if Vax hadn’t had to die?
The moment they knew they were safe Vax would have started pulling them all in for hugs, dropping kisses on every reluctant cheek, especially Grog’s. He would have called Scanlan a Beautiful Bastard, complimenting him on how wonderfully he performed in the fight.
Vax would have insisted they go see Gilmore as soon as they got back to Whitestone. He would have thrown his arms around Shaun, told him how delighted he was to see him, how glad he was they were all safe.
And later, he would have been there for Pike and Scanlan’s wedding. He would have probably played some annoying prank on Scanlan during his bachelor party, and he’d help Pike get dressed during the day of the ceremony, braiding up her hair.
He would have known his sister’s children. Would have held each one in his arms, flying them up into the air with him, skimming over the treetops, while Vex complained that he was being reckless. He would have teased her endlessly about being boring in her old age. At least once a month, he’d convince Keyleth to take some time off, and they’d travel to Whitestone, because he could never bear to be away from his sister for that long.
He would have been the one organizing the get-togethers, each time Vox Machina returned to each other. He’d get restless every few months and arrange to see all of his family, no matter how far apart they’d moved.
Vax wouldn’t have let Keyleth lead alone. He wouldn’t have let her grow weary and tired and solemn. He would have told her that he loved her, that he supported her, that he would always be there when she needed him, every single day.
He probably would have been a father, and he would have grown to be the kind of father that he never had. No child of Vax’ildan would ever have felt unwanted, or unloved. He would have finally felt like he and his family had something permanent and strong and safe.
Vax would have lived. It would have been beautiful.
Critical Role
I have so many feelings that they keep overflowing out of my eyes. Also my thoughts are not really coherent...
It’s been many many hours since the lest episode ended and I keep thinking about it. I have so many thoughts about how it ended, all good ones.
There is one thing that has stuck with me since the last episode finished, well two things. The Queen songs - Who Wants To Live Forever and These Are The Days Of Our Lives. They keep playing around in my head when I think about Keyleth and Vax, they seem fitting when you think about the lyrics. Of course it makes me super sad.
Anyway...
Matt did such a good job through the whole episode - not only the whole episode, but the whole campaign. What a gift he has given his players, and us.
I’m deeply honoured that they let us watch them play their game. They didn’t have too, but they choose to, not knowing how it would be received. I cannot thank Matt enough for the story that he weaved for us. The setting, characters and the emotions made this something that I will never forget and I am sure that everyone will remember this for what it was: A bunch of nerdy ass voice actors sitting around playing Dungeons and Dragons.
The players, Marisha, Ashley, Sam, Liam, Travis, Laura and Taliesin, brought to life characters that in some ways represented parts of them. Their characters have become some of my most favourite characters in any fictional setting. I’ve laughed, cried and gotten angry with them.
While I feel empty currently, I know that will be fleeting. In the new year the cast will be back with new characters for us to fall in love with, who go on a new adventures and do crazy, dumb shit.
Really what I want to say is Thank You.
From the bottom of my heart Thank You.
It’s
Over, isn’t it?
Isn’t it?
Isn’t it over?
It’s over, isn’t it?
Isn’t it?
Isn’t it over?
They won
And they showed us
And they loved us
And they’re goooooooone
Goodnight Vox Machina. It has been an honour to have known you
i know liam mentioned this before but the fact that he used his last level up to get a level in druid just so he could grow flowers....... these are the kind of CR moments that i will suddenly remember in the middle of the night and cry about
My bro’s waiting for a Pikelan moment and I AM LIVING FOR IT
