Whitney thank you for the detail of wearing Bolaire feeling like a bunch of tiny kisses all over your face, I promise to use this for smutty headcanons, I owe you my life
hi it’s 1am and i’m rewatching the opening for details hahah fuck
but like.
like also primus left kattigan alone. he just. did whatever to marienna and their daughter and that was it. so whatever his intention… i mean, yes, kattigan fought in the falconer’s rebellion, but he wasn’t thjazi. he fucked off to the woods and never looked back.
so with that said, primus’s target was more likely marienna and/or even their daughter.
my rule in fiction is almost always “no body, no death” and from the narration, kattigan heard them fall, but he found no bodies within. “no blood, no trail,” even though it looked like primus wiped blood off his face and licked it off his fingers.
no body, no death…
idfk, i think his daughter, at the very least, is still alive. raised by the tachonis’ or a vassal house for some reason. maybe marienna came from a vassal or sundered house or their child had sorcerous abilities. sorry but if we meet a young girl vaguely resembling kattigan or a young girl with freckles i’m gonna be SO SUSPICIOUS. very possible that marienna is out there too but more likely the as-of-yet-unnamed daughter.
also robbie’s initial narration confirming that kattigan “plays the fool” more than actually being a fool, like yeah kattigan doesn’t have the interest in politics and games but he’s not truly foolish. unlucky, awkward, social battery drained (i feel that, bud) but smart enough. and a survivor. we’ve seen him be tactical in sticky situations with the soldiers table. castle sloak would have gone very differently if he hadn’t thought to cause a diversion with loose horses.
very interested to see how he (and bolaire) react to wick’s seeming betrayal, even if. when? he gets out of the tailor shop ordeal.

in seriousness that line held a lot of weight and i do wonder what it could mean when they eventually go up against primus…
Oh wait hey.
You know Hal's play became a ritual that formed a bridge to the Dying Fields, which was Azgra's afterlife of perpetual war and slaughter for the orcs?
And how one component of that ritual was the paint made from the blood of the orcs from the font that the ancient Tachonises were supposed to use to train the Deva Vindicta to hunt down Azgra and his followers.
And how Thjazi stole that blood and made it into something new to reclaim and rework that ritual into something good
Now the current Tachonises have no way of knowing exactly what Thjazi managed to do (with Hal's help) but I wonder what they originally intended (Tachonis being the house which draws on the dead for power, and which routinely presses the dead into service, remember.)
I wonder if the original plan was to use the blood and the Deva Vindicta to find the Dying Fields. Maybe to destroy them and the spirits within? Or maybe to use their mastery over spirits and PRESS THEM INTO SERVICE. Make these spirits bound and compelled to an afterlife of war and slaughter and force them to war and slaughter FOR HOUSE TACHONIS. The Deva Vindicta was the big shiny weapon, but a war of imperial conquest needs more than a single big shiny weapon: it needs an army. And that's also why they want to destroy the Path - they dont want there to be any way for their army of restless dead to be laid to rest. The Druids are currently the only real way to bleed strength from the Tachonis forces on a large scale.
The, um.
