🎉 First Sale Update: The Reality of Etsy Fees

Hey Tumblr! Remember the first sale I mentioned earlier? Well, the payment finally went through, and I've got some eye-opening numbers to share with you all.

The Breakdown

Here's what happened with my €0.66 sale (2 things):

Etsy VAT: Processing Fee: -€0.09

VAT: Transaction: -€0.01

Transaction fees: -€0.03 (€0.02 + €0.01)

VAT paid by buyer: -€0.14

Processing fee: -€0.33

Listing fee + VAT (auto-renew sold): -€0.24 (€0.19 + €0.05)

Listing fee + VAT (auto-renew sold): -€0.24 (€0.19 + €0.05)

The Shocking Total

So, I earned €0.66 from the sale, but the total fees and costs came to... €1.08! 😱That means I actually lost €0.42 on this sale. Yes, you read that right - I paid Etsy to sell my item!

What I've Learned

Low-priced items can actually cost you money to sell.

It's crucial to factor in ALL fees when pricing your items.

The journey of an Etsy seller is full of surprises!

Moving Forward

While this first sale wasn't profitable, it's been an invaluable learning experience. During yesterday’s meeting we explored the backstitch embroidery technique – one of the fundamental hand-embroidery techniques. There was lots of focus, creativity, and great energy while working together.

#Repost @thebeermama ・・・ Just a girl in her makeshift wood shop, trying to survive this humidity. Cracked a 2017 @allagashbrewing Confluence today. I love this beer so much, it’s light and juuuust funky enough. Light bodied golden ale, with a bright tart funk to it fading to soft fruit and a little barnyard, but the house Brett definitely tosses out some funky fruit here too, while Allagash regular house yeast keeps the spice present in the front of the palate. I actually drink this beer fairly warm because this beer develops so nicely over time and I really want to taste the full breadth of flavor. As usual, it’s heavenly because that’s all @allagashbrewing does. Cheers! Also! so, my mom wants me to start listing her crafts for her online to try and sell them. etsy as a site is going down the drain pretty hard, so i’m thinking about doing it largely based out of tumblr.

i’m wondering what a good manner might be? an individual post per item, yes, but maybe also a “commission” page type of post detailing everything she makes? 

anyone in the art community have a suggestion? she’s going to be selling everything from fabric pins to painted saw blades, so! i’m trying to come up with a cohesive posting method before starting!
